Fourth Chapter: The plot thickens.

Author's note: Sorry for the extremely long wait. I had a lot of life issues to settle and all, and this fic wasn't priority. Since my life has become slightly more stable, I managed to kick myself into doing this. Although I cannot say content will be as well done as I hoped. Enjoy.

Somewhere in the middle of a dark cellar.

“Luna, would you mind coming over here?”
“Yes, Sister. What seems to be the problem?”
“The scientists are claiming that there is a problem with the readings.”
“I do not see any-…but… that’s … that’s impossible…”

“This is not good. We have to shut this down, immediately! Hurry!”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Twilight? What is with that costume you are wearing?” Inquired the white coated unicorn.

“Huh?! Who are you?! How did you get past my guards?!”

Rarity, dressed in what could only be described as a dress, a bejeweled sheath and hilt with a belt embossed with diamonds, without any trace of green, was surprisingly shocked at the purple unicorn, dressed in a flowing silk dress, with a translucent veil. Which was pretty good on her, If I say so myself.

“Now, Twilight, my dear. What in the name of Celestia are you doing here?”
“Who are you?! Are you an assassin?! How do you know my name?!”
The veiled unicorn was shrieking at the top of her lungs.

“Now, now. Stop playing these childish games. Twilight, please, tell me why are you here. Did you see Rainbow or-“

Before Rarity could even finish, the would-be Twilight was already trying to sprint out of the garden, promptly stopped by Navi. Who was holding a giant iron door.

“What do you want from me?! Go away! I’ll give you anything! Just don’t kill me!”
Twilight would-be was shivering in fear, clutching her bruised muzzle.

Rarity paled at these words. She looked over to her companion, Navi, for some advice on how to calm this unicorn.

“Okay, I’ll do the talking.” Rarity nodded her head in silence, confused by the events that just occurred.

Navi flew over to the still whimpering unicorn.
“Are you Princess Twilight?”

She jumped up with a start, and backpedaled for her life, back first into another wall.

Navi flew over to Twilight, and questioned her again.

“Are you Princess Twilight?”

She nodded her head furiously.

Navi sighed, and started to explain to the Princess their reasons for breaking into the palace.

The princess listened intently to Navi’s heroic tales, interrupted by Rarity, who was constantly amending her story.

The sun was slowly dipping into the horizon.

“…And that’s what happened over the last few hours.”

Princess Twilight tilted her head to one side.

“So… You are on an ‘epic’ journey to stop evil, and require my assistance. Is that correct?”
“Yes.”
“And that you are truly the ones from my dream… Is that correct too?”
“Well, yes.”

Princess Twilight was absorbing the new information pretty well. Navi, had a small glint in her eyes.

“This evil you are talking about… the power he is after… It is the Tri-Force, No doubt?”
“Yes, the most powerful artifact ever known to us.”

It was then Rarity chipped in.

“Artifact? Most powerful? I am sorry, but would you mind explaining this to me?”

Twilight motioned Rarity to take a seat, before continuing the legend of the Tri-Force.

“This is a legend only known to the royal family of Hyrule. The three goddesses, Nayru, Farore, and Din…”

Rarity interjected. “Who might those be?”

Navi responded. “They are the gods who created our world. Didn’t you hear the Great Deku Tree’s story?”

Rarity thought back awhile, but could not recall such a thing.

“Musta been the author’s influence…” Navi huffed under her breath.

“As I said earlier, dearie, who is this ‘Author’?”

Navi totally ignored the question presented and continued listening.

“The three goddesses hid the Tri-Force, somewhere in Hyrule. The bearer of the Tri-Force will be enabled the power to grant their wish.”

“Oh, my. That seems serious.” Rarity subconsciously answered, to which she put her hooves over her mouth.”

“Well, yes. If the wisher has a righteous heart… Hyrule will enter a golden age of prosperity… However, if one of an evil mind has his wish, the world will be consumed by evil… That is what has been told…”

“Wow, Good guy wishes, Hyrule gets prosperity. Bad guy does it, the whole world is doomed. That’s kinda off, you know. Only Hyrule gets prosperity?”

Navi was met with two glares. If Navi could shrug, she would.

“Because of this, The ancient sages built the Temple Of Time and sealed the Tri-Force in the sacred realm, to protect it from those who are evil at heart…”

“The only way to the sacred realm where the Tri-Force is kept, is through the temple of time, which is behind a stone door known as the door of time. The only way to open it is to collect the three spiritual stones.”

“You mean this beautiful jewel?” Rarity took out an emerald jewel, which sparkled under the sun.

“Why yes! But that isn’t all you need. You also need another key item. One that the royal family keeps along with this legend…”

Princess Twilight stopped, set a few mechanisms, before proudly standing on her hind hooves, one hoof outstretched, the other at presumably at her hip.

“The Ocarina of Time!”

The mechanisms shot out a beautiful array of magical sparks, complete with trumpets fanfare.

Rarity didn’t know how to respond. So she just awkwardly clapped her hooves.
Navi facegrounded again.

“Did you understand the story I told you?”

Rarity had a squinted eye, and replied. “Well, yes. I did understand it.”

Princess Twilight was thoughtful for a moment, before inquiring.
“Why did I ask you if you understood? Never mind. I believe I know who this evil is.”

Triumphantly pointing into the lone window that was directly behind her the whole time, with an air of malice, spoke.

“That pony.”

At the moment Rarity and Navi looked in, a red maned colt, with a brown coat, covered with black and silver armor, with what seemed to be a jewel on his head, trotted into view. The colt then stood up straight, and assumed a stance, similar to pledging loyalty.

“I don’t trust him. Even though he swore allegiance to my father, he must be anything but sincere.”

“But who is he?” Rarity queried.

“His name is Ganondorf. He is the leader of the Gerudos, a tribe in the far west.”

The colt spotted the trio by the window. By then, Rarity had already ducked out of view.

“It’s okay if he sees us. He doesn’t know what we are planning yet!”

Rarity asked. “What are we planning to do?”

“It’s simple. All we have to do is get the Tri-Force before he does.”
“That seems a little too easy.”
“Relax! It will all go fi-ummmmph!”

At that moment both Rarity and Navi shoved their hooves (Or wings) into her mouth.

A while later.

“So you will aid me to stop him?”
“More of the opposite.”
“Right. I shall protect the Ocarina from Ganondorf until the time comes. Oh, and I’m sure this will help you.”

Rarity was handed a letter, and she inspected it.

“It’s… an autograph?”
“Why yes! I’m sure it will be very useful. Before you leave though, talk to Impa.”

A white maned mare, one with experience in the lands, stood tall at the entrance of the garden.

Since I was lazy, here is a fast forwarded scene.

“I’ll teach you a song. It’s a melody passed down by the royal family.”
The melody was learnt by Rarity in ten seconds.
“Well, that’s kind of you.”
“Go to Kakariko village, my hometown. It’s at the bottom of the only giant mountain.”
“I… see.”
“Protect this land, and our princess.”
Impa promptly disappears.

Since you probably expected Twilight meeting Princess Twilight, sorry to say, I didn’t put it at the front. But I bet you still want to know, so here it is. A short story sequence.

Twilight meets Princess Twilight in the garden of dreams.

“Who are you?! And why do you look like me?!”
“No, why do YOU look like me?!”

Afterwards, they spent an entire day passing theories on magic, the physical state of fire, quantum physics, and other subjects I don’t even know. Navi, in the meantime, was reading a book she found in my house.

And afterward, Princess Twilight more or less gave a speech, similar to what she told Rarity, with the pose, much to Twilight’s delight. Navi had a different reaction.

Twilight learnt about the song quickly too, and left for Death Mountain. Since I’m still on Rarity, the story will continue from where she left off.

Somehow she picked up a Hylian shield (Not stolen by Navi.) along the way.

The guard at the gate to Death Mountain stood tall, gaze unmoving.

Rarity approached the Guard, and attempted to strike a conversation. All the guard would say, however, was “No unauthorized entry allowed.” Prompting Navi to prompt Rarity to use the autograph. Who knew.

After getting past the guard.

Since I couldn’t think of anything funny, I’ll just skip the journey scene.

At the Gorons.
“Well, what do we have here?” A giant pony with a disheveled white mane and coat that resembled rocks boomed.

“Are you absolutely sure this is safe?” Rarity whispered to Navi.
“Of course it is. Besides, you still have all 5 hearts.”
“That’s ridiculous. Ponies, do not have 5 hearts, and I am not such a sick collector of them either.”

“Well, If you have business, go away, RIGHT NOW.” The giant pony boomed yet again.

“Well, he certainly has a grumpy attitude. Not to mention his hair. Does he even wash his hair?”

“No. And we have to get the spiritual stone from him too.”

“You mean… this?”

Rarity pulled out a shining ruby from off screen.

Navi’s mouth had just hit the ground.

“How… How on earth did you do that?”

“Earth? What might that be? It was simple, all I had to do was ascertain its location, and then just… borrow it.”

“Isn’t that stealing?”

“No it isn’t. It’s for a greater good, and besides, they would have given it to me anyway, therefore, I am merely borrowing it for a short while.”

Navi was still bewildered by what just happened.

But she decided to just ignore this physical impossibility. They were in a game, after all.

So Navi stole the power socks as well. She convinced Rarity to keep it, since it was supposedly the height of fashion, although Rarity didn't seem to believe her.

And after a little coaxing from Rarity, Navi revealed their next destination.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Princess Luna! We can’t turn it off! Even the power supply is disconnected, but it still refuses to shut down!”

The workers were in a frantic rush, pulling and unplugging every single cable in the vicinity, except for a lone soul that stole a sandwich, but none of their efforts had stopped the machine, whilst the 6 ponies within, slept on, isolated from the world.

Princess Luna and Celestia commanded the scientists to fall back, and both unleashed their full magical powers at the Machine.

The magical energy blasted at the machine, causing explosions and grey smoke billowed out from the impact. The smoke slowly cleared up… ...

… ... To show that the domes had not even had a scratch.

What was shocking to the Princesses, however, was not the apparent futility of their magic.

In front of their eyes, stood something no pony would have ever expected.

A silhouette of a pony. One that all knew recently.

One that both princesses knew too well.

Nightmare Moon.
