Hello pony fans amiable and admirable! I mentioned a couple months ago that a thing is happening this Christmas, and... well... the happening has started.
Hello pony fans amiable and admirable! I mentioned a couple months ago that a thing is happening this Christmas, and... well... the happening has started.
Some surprising things have happened recently relative to "Three Nights"—and while I'm horrible about posting updates about anything these days, I think it's important that I let y'all know about these.
So PresentPerfect is doing this "Tell Me About Your Job" thing, and it's gotten a lot of responses from people and is just generally interesting. I filled it out earlier today, but I completely missed the opportunity to discuss my worst-ever job experience. And when I finally realized that this thing counted as a job experience, I also

So I'm up in central California right now, doing a spot of dog-sitting and dissertation-writing. But I took time away from analyzing the marginalization problem with DIC today to drive up to Sacramento and meet up with one of my pony-friendliest pony-friends: horizon! You remember when I used to do live drunk-writing? Like that one time, with horizon, at BABScon?
Well, horizon just asked if I'd be interested in doing another one tonight. It's short notice, and I'm going to need to run to the store and grab some booze before I can really go to town, but I think we're doing this thing.
Well, I'll say this: I'm less dead than I look.
Anyway, today I'd like to take a moment to talk about opening lines. We've got an Original Short Story Writeoff finishing up this evening.[1] I've spent a lot of the last week reading and reviewing, and beginning some revisions on an original story of my own. Going through this month's Writeoff entries, though, got me thinking about one of my favorite topics in fiction—and one it seems I've never blogged about before—opening lines.
