    today is a real special day. today is when the norfolk & western would roll out a new steam engine on may 29th 1950 that would become an icon for steam. the n&w employees of roanoke out shopped n&w class j 4-8-4 no. 611 from the n&w roanoke virginia shops. thus began a the career of one of the most highly advanced steam locomotives ever built. for 9 years the 611 and her 13 class j sisters worked hauling the n&w's passenger trains. but by the late 50's she and her sisters couldn't compete with

    happy memorial day/follow up

    well i done it again

    i just wanted to share that i did win the bid on the 4th thomas tape i was looking for. (the tape was the gallent old engine tape). i thought i wouldn't win it but i did. so that is now 4 of the 5 tapes i said i'd go for. the last one i need is the sing along and stories tape (they keep showing the re-release version for sale but i want to look for the original tape released in 1997). maybe i may get lucky that someone will sell it new like the other 4 tapes i've found so i just will keep

    csx's has done it again

    I just learned that csx has released the 14th heritage unit no. 1967 for the seaboard coast line and it's a pretty impressive unit. as I said this was another one of those road names I had hope they'd do and they did. they're coming close to finishing the gap of the total of units they're doing after a year since they started this project. now the pittsburgh & lake erie unit is the next one and the csx equipment updates page shared concept art for the 16th unit (going to wait to say what that
