Seriously why is this a thing · 8:54pm Sep 3rd, 2013
Take a look at this:
See the one pointing down at the rest of the post? Compare it to this:
She's not fucking 'cyan', people. Cyan is a much brighter shade, apparently with a lot more green in it.
Cyan is defined as 'halfway between blue and green' 'also known as aqua'
I'm fully aware that most folks just say 'cyan' as 'another way to say blue'. I'm also fully aware that words mean things.
As you were.
Just doing some Wikipedia research here (lul) and her coat seems to match the shade known as "printer's cyan" pretty well. I don't think anyone wants to describe her coat in hex triplet, so they just use the closest matching word in common usage.
Not to be snide, but how would you describe Rainbow's color? Light blue? Sky blue?
The cyan pegasus with the chromatic mane paused to look at this sentence.
And then flew away.
I think people just use the MLP wiki to see what color her coat is. Which says cyan. I'll be damned if I'm going to argue with what Wikipedia says.
1325981 Baby blue perhaps?
Or not? I'm bad with colors..

That is probably the closest shade. I personally don't mind people using cyan to describe her, though I don't use it myself. I would probably describe her as 'pale blue' if I was to write about Dash. (Haven't actually written a Dash scene, so we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.)
1325981 I'm actually colorblind, but from everything I've seen and specifically heard? Blue or light blue.
1326057
...I feel like a dick. And 'light blue' or 'pale blue' is the term I would use as well.
1326085 Is k, you didn't know.
I'd say that it's a matter of the quality of the cartoon based on who uploads the episodes and such. I for one always say she's cyan because of the episodes I downloaded. Take these screenshots and look at how different the shades are between each one:

1326101 Neither appears to match 'cyan', though. There's a HUGE contrast and brightness shift.
1326104 Whenever I see a light blue I always call it cyan. My names for colors is very limited, and so far everyone who reads my fics never complained that I call her "the cyan mare". In the end is a matter of preferences, like if Rarity is gray or white (I think she's light gray, almost white).
Shes closest to Columbia Blue, I think
There's a shade called "Alice blue" that I always thought was a close match.
The more I read your blogs about things like this, the more I feel relieved that there's someone knowledgable enough to recognize these things.
Then I was to start strangling people.
I feel slightly vindicated somehow.
1326719 It'll all be okay, mama Dancer is here now to smack the bad people
I'd say that her colour is close to that of Pale Aqua, which would in fact fall under the category of the colour Aqua. Aqua also happens to be a variation on a certain colour we all know and love: Cyan.
1326748 Can I still strangle them?
1326779 oh, of course. Start with this guy : 1326759
1326802 Alright.
(1326759)
Here goes something!

Now that's not very nice.
Hrm
so what is she then light azure?
he asked the colorblind woman
1325981
her coat color is officially "very light cerulean" or "#9fe7ff" or "RGBA(159, 231, 255, 255)"
But PANTONE 283C just does not have the same ring to it...
