2023 Plugging my Halloween stories this evening - Add ones you particularly like in the comments · 3:59am Nov 1st, 2023

As we head into All Saints Day this year, a celebration of all who have attained the beatific vision of heaven (hey, I don’t write this stuff, I just crib off Wikipedia), I just wanted to wish all the kids out there the best of candy, full sized chocolate bars, and no peppermints. To help, I offer several seasonal stories of my own, short and long, from special points of view:

Instinct drove him to spread his wings, instinct and a driving call to battle which he could not ignore. The Goddess of the Night sang to his soul, breathing on the embers of his anger and bringing them to a terrible blaze that threatened to consume him in Her glory. All around him, he could hear the answering call of his fellow warriors, blessed by Her magic and subservient to Her will.

Command us! Lead us to glory in your name! The Night shall last forever!

First, we have my most recent story, The Last Nightguard where poor Ebon Tide was trapped with Nightmare Moon for a thousand years and is now struggling with the modern world and all the problems in it, including one he brought along. Yes, there is a Nightmare Night scene in it. Well, two.

Then from 2020, Nightmare Night - Windigo Fright which covers a young teacher out with his students for an exciting night of candy collection, as well as a learning experience he will never forget. (no matter how much he tries)

“OoooOOooOOoo?”

There was a Windigo standing to his side, which was a little startling since Green Grass had been fairly certain that section of roadway was Windigo-free a few seconds ago. The fact that it was a Windigo did not bother him, because his own Windigo costume was one of several out in the darkened streets tonight. Besides, the Windigo was only slightly over knee-high, making him just barely old enough to go asking for treats without his parents. Or at least the voice sounded like a small colt under the costume. It was difficult to tell with the tattered white sheets billowing over his back and the low susurrus of frost noises. Unicorn enchantments were so fascinating, and when combined with pegasus magic made amazing costumes that just seemed to get better every year.

“Hello, little one. I didn’t see you around during the games earlier. Did you just get here? Are your parents around?” he asked, looking up and down the street for a concerned parent or two.

City of Monsters - A young bat who lives with her family in the Everfree Forest ventures into the terrifying City of the Monsters, where she finds something more terrifying than anything she has ever seen before: Ponies who look just like her.
Child of Nightmares and Everfree - A Night Guard who lost his wife and child years ago follows a sighting deep into the Everfree Forest with only one pony brave enough to accompany him. But when he finds his daughter, will he be able to bring her home again, or will she remain with the only mother she has ever really known?

“Why, Mama?” Dee struggled to get out from under Sunshine’s wing, but Mama only squeezed tighter. “Why are you afraid, Mama? Do you think they will hurt me?”

“No.” Mama relaxed her crushing grip and turned Dee to face upward, her dark gaze damp with tears. “I’m afraid they will turn you into a pony.”

Goodnight, and don’t let the owls eat you.

Well I would take your suggestion and jump on reading these if I hadn't already read them all. :rainbowwild: Been a nice Nightmare Night all around though.

May your Nightmare Night be bountiful, and the diabetes and cavities be staved off for another year.
