That’s the reason Ezn gives in his guide’s section on show vs. tell. But this begs the question: More engaging in what way? This is not a useful theory, because I don’t know what “engaging” means, and because it doesn’t tell us when telling is good.

It is a peculiar state we find ourselves living in, between purpose and pointless. Our lives full of frivolous and trivial things as much as worthwhile and important things. Is it from a combination of these things which we are supposed to derive some sort of further meaning? Maybe you believe in a grand being with a plan, and maybe you don't. Whatever the case, do you still derive purpose from what you do?
