Everyone knows of Twilight Sparkle, personal student to the princess of the sun, and element of magic. She has friends, family, and above all, hope.
However, Twilight Sparkle doesn't exist. In fact, Equestria doesn't exist either. All it is and will ever be is a figment of my imagination. Simply a way to live out the rest of my days with a slight measure of happiness. I am not her, but I would give my horn to be her for but a single day. To have everything, and yet not realise how lucky you are to have such things, to live.
What I am doing right now is not living, this is waiting for death.

This is... interesting. I am curious to know what is going on, please carry on.
I'm not living...
I'm just killing time...
;_;
Interesting chapter. I hope to see where this goes.
I like it. It shows promise and I'm genuinely curious as to what happened to the world.
As cool as this is:
If this is true, I will kill you.
2467803
It is true as of until season 4 comes out, which means it's true as of in this story's cannon.
Until the new season, this is almost(but not quite)cannon.
It is an alternate universe after all.
I like this but the only thing that bothers me is how you leave out Spike in her fantasy life, I guess it could be justified since is a AU but still... why does everyone leave the dragon out?
2468528
Because there are too many ponies and people to list them all and not get boring?
Ok, why did they suck the life from the planet anyway?
It so sad!
Hmmm, interesting...I wonder where this will go?
The spikes, this "Promised day", and the true effects of that spell. I wonder...what does this all mean?
So wait, she absorbs life to be used as magic energy?
Cool.
Oh the suspense

Assumptions will get you nowhere.
OKay this is interesting. If you wan't me as an editor for this one I'm cool for it.

Ok.
2468528>>2468560 I agree with chocolate here. I think Spike has had a big enough impact on her fantasy life to be at least mentioned

For gods sake
FINE I WILL GO BACK AND ADD HIM IF IT IS SUCH A FREAKING BIG DEAL
Finally, thank you very much.
I like this. Twilight is all alone. What a terrible torment.
A dark and horrible paradise.
I say.
Five 'dead' bodies with spells of preservation, hmm? Not a lot of description of them - twi doesn't seem to have examined them closely; I can't help but wonder...
Perhaps they're a little better 'preserved' than she realizes...

Keep wondering
This...this is getting real interesting indeed. :) I can hardly wait for next chapter. Who knows what our dear protagonist may find in those books...or even the bodies, hmmm?

IT's not Trixie
:P

...that...was not what I mean...was just supposed to be a sly look...still, gives me another theory, though this time I'll hold off on the faces...just to avoid confusion...sorry about that. :sheepish look:
2668736
I was making a joke
Interesting, and bittersweet. I can't help but wonder if the story should be listed as complete or not, though.
2693131
Is it not complete?
2693264
That's what I was wondering. The narrative sounds like it could be complete, but the story status is still listed as incomplete...
Either way, it was a fun read and experiment in worldbuilding, as well as a reflection on that rather evocative picture.
You make it sounds as though it is over.
I'll admit, I'm a sucker for happy endings as well. While there were a lot of nooks and crannies that were only hinted at, it still made for an interesting journey. Short but poignant.
Awwwwww.
She went to heaven and still writes in a journal.
Ha!

OR DID SHE
Consider this then
If your entire life was lived alone in a barren wasteland, and you woke up to suddenly see a lush landscape and creatures everywhere, would you not consider it heaven?
Consider this also
Her journal came with her.
Consider this also

Mah brain!
You choking it with harsh questions and info!

And yep.

So much unexplained...!
And yet... It works.

Five bodies... How about that.

Very glad.

Yay, happy endings, I do like stories with a bit more meat to them but this works for the most part. joblo.com/newsimages1/BT_3_excel.jpg

Whoa there, Warewolves. This is excellent! You're really... Can't think of what I want to say. Similar to being thrown for a loop, but without the negative side of that saying. Regardless of my nonfunctional brain, this is great! I'm glad I took a looksie at it x3
Since everyone else has said it I might as well too.... five bodies huh? What an....interesting number to pick.
Ok, I'm about say some disparaging things here, but just keep in mind that anything I don't complain about is therefore excellent. I didn't like the last chapter. It's really odd because like many people on the comment section I am a sucker for happy endings. However, I feel that the melancholy ending of chapter 4 was a good capstone. It was bittersweet, thought provoking, even philosophical. I often point to The Giver by Lois Lowry as an example of this situation. The dramatic tension was built up well right up until the last couple paragraphs where the main character leaves the village and then a perfectly melancholy ending was ruined by "and then he sledded down the hill into happiness" or something similar. While there's nothing wrong inside the chapter itself (far from it, it keeps the tone quite nicely), I feel that the story itself was fine without the epilogue.
As of reading "End" I found myself drawn into an introspective mood pondering the depth and hidden meaning of the little actions and not just the things that were said, but the things that weren't as well. Adding in "The After" brings up more questions that it resolves. Is this Twilight the same one as the one that ascended? Did this Twilight make the new world in the image of her imagined world? Was it an imaginary world? How is this Twilight related to the princess Twilight? There clearly is at least enough evidence to make some connection. The love of books, the checklists, all of princess Twilight's friends. And now that I'm poking holes in it, what about Twilight's mother? If Twilight's mother could keep the spikes from killing Twilight every "promised day" while she grew up wouldn't that make her more powerful than Twilight? Who was her father? Possibly the most fridge horror questions is this: Since the magic in the spikes was used to purportedly bring back life to the planet and resurrect the dead ponies, wouldn't that mean that every time Twilight used that spell to get water/food (admittedly we've only seen evidence of two uses) where she breaks down the spike wouldn't that mean she is, in some sense, consuming the essence of other ponies?
I don't know why but I think of Casshern Sins.
...I probably butchered that.
