This story is a sequel to Maledict

Side story to Maledict

With Celestia off on her journey to the Arcturian Order, Luna is invited to the city of Aquila by Queen Vivienne Discret. With the possibility of obtaining support from Aquileia, the princess brings Flurry Heart and Spike to the rapidly modernizing city, where new blends with old. With the help of the queen, Princess Luna hopes to learn the ways of waging war in a modern world, to one day reclaim Equestria from her enemies.

Set in the Equestria at War universe, a mod for the grand strategy game Hearts of Iron IV

Shoutout to Reviewfilly for his help with proofreading! I feel like this story would be lesser without his help.

I enjoyed the first chapter.

"I don't want to go!" Flurry cried behind her door.
Luna sat outside of her niece's room as the younger alicorn threw her tantrum. She heard stomps and crying along with the crashing and banging of things being pulled down and thrown around. A glance at Spike's worried expression finally strengthened her resolve to make a move. "Go get some ice cream," she whispered to him.

*gasps*

They ate in comfortable silence until Spike let out a belch which caused Flurry to burst into giggles and Luna cracked a grin. Vivienne raised a brow, and then her glass of juice.
“There are many ways to show approval of a meal, sometimes the simplest ones are the best,” the Queen said with a smile.

She does have a point there.

"Spike, you never had a formal education, and so Queen Vivienne is graciously providing the both of you this opportunity."
"Please princess, living with Twilight was like being at school 24/7!"

I was about to say the same.

Luna carefully stepped up to the set up table as she gave a nod to the Queen. She couldn’t remember the last time she was lectured, but if the Queen was anything like Star Swirl, she was about to face a dreadful afternoon after such a wondrous breakfast.

Maybe. But she will end up wiser. Or at least slightly more experienced.

two bad bitches, both alike in pride and dignity, having a chat. love it

So this is the secret spouse option that we never going to see

its always nice to see anecdotes of luna's childhood, and seeing luna and spike try to parent flurry in their own way is very sweet to see! they're making the most of an objectively shitty situation and they seem to be doing their best to not leave her behind in what must be one of the worst periods in her life thus far :)

I do try my best! Anecdotes of the Sisters' history is always easy to do since we don't really know much about it, and I'm glad you're enjoying how Spike and Luna try to help Flurry.

it's really cute to see luna taking care of flurry :) brings a tear to my eye. it's also funny that luna is 'forcing' vivienne to reconcile with her dysfunctional family

11778693
Michel is certainly dysfunctional in his own special way, I'm glad that you've been enjoying the story thus far!

A little Christmas gift for everyone! I'll be taking a wee break from weekly uploads for the holidays and whatnot and hope you all have a happy new year!

Thank you!
I hope you have a great time, too!

Celestia's "troubles" are the events of your other story Maledict, correct?
Especially her first battle with Rosa Maledicta?

They are, but this chapter happens concurrently with Celestia and the Patient!

Worst emotional combo to had

“What are you doing?” Spike whispered.
“There’s a little wind, but it’s not a cross breeze. I’m trying to find out where it’s coming from,” Flurry whispered back.
“Why?”
“It’s bothering me, there’s something really familiar about it?”

Interesting... let's see if that leads to more.

“I’d sneak snacks out of the kitchen pantries back in Sunset all the time,” she explained with a cheery tone as her hooves clip-clopped down the stairs into the dark tunnels below.

Got that from her mother?

“It’s just a bunch of old bones, there’s nothing to be afraid of!” Spike assured him, even as he looked over his shoulder into the darkness they left behind.

Rose Maledicta: "Well, about that..."

Good chapter!
I enjoyed reading it.

And now I wonder what would have happened had Luna not intervened...

“You already wore that dress, didn’t you? Hmm. Well, it is a nice dress I suppose.” He brought his talons together in a clap. “So much art from all around Griffonia is on display, and all about our wonderful family! Shall we start in the statue gardens? I’ve brought many from Rila!”

Luna: "Maybe we should add another statue..."

Just as she was to follow after the queen her eyes moved to one statue off in a far corner. The familiarity was instant; the statue of Maar Flurry had found in the catacombs. A chill went down her spine and she could not fathom why.

Yeah, nothing to worry about.
Probably. Hopefully.

Vivienne's wings tightened up against her back as she smiled. "Ah, perhaps Flurry would like a go?"
Before Luna could say a thing in protest Flurry was already by her side, her large wings buzzing in anticipation. "Daddy taught me a little bit, can I auntie, please?"
Luna closed her eyes and nodded. "I do not see why not."

Flurry nodded as Vivienne gingerly pressed in for a poke, more out of not wanting to hurt the filly than anything. Then Flurry exploded into a whirlwind.

Get her, girl!

As Flurry sobbed Luna let out a weary sigh. "You know you must tell her and apologize."
Flurry wiped at her face with a hoof. "I-I'm not sorry."
She stared dumbfounded at her niece. "You are not...?"
"No, and I won't ever be!"
Luna stood up and turned away from the filly. "I am disappointed in you Flurry. You are supposed to be better than that. This is not how a Princess acts."
"A Princess shouldn’t run away either."

Wow... That stung.

Wow I had no idea you commented, FimFic didn't give me the alert. Not the worst emotional combo, but certainly a bad one!

And now I wonder what would have happened had Luna not intervened...

Some more sobbing until Flurry tried to find her way out until the work crews came in for the day and found her.

11925305
Yeah, absolutely nothing to worry about! On Luna's end, at least.

11925330

Wow... That stung.

I try!

The recreational room of their manor in Sunset was the perfect place to practice Flurry's magic, given that it was spacious, and Luna's own magical abilities were easily able to keep the filly's contained.

Flurry: "For now, dear auntie. For now..."

"Would be cheaper for us too," Jet Set said as he walked in. "But that can all wait for now. Princess Luna, I have wonderful news."
Luna turned to the governor with a gentle smile. "More breakthroughs with Beakolini?"
"Celestia is on her way back."

Even better!
