This story is a sequel to Friendship is Forever
(More of a concurrent side story rather than a sequel)
Twilight Sparkle, distraught by the death of Rainbow Dash, begins to bend new laws made by Celestia to benefit the remaining Elements of Harmony and the rest of Ponyville.
A side story explaining how Twilight and Celestia's relationship became strained; briefly alluded to in the last chapter of Friendship is Forever. It is highly recommended that Friendship is Forever be read before this.

Well, here's the start of the tension build-up. All the way back then.
First, Sunset passed then Rainbow. And the bitterness steadily grows. And will grow more with the passing of each of her friends.
Quick question: Will Twilight see Sunset in the afterlife, even though Sunset died a human?
8343980 Actually Rainbow died before Sunset. If you remember back to Friendship is Forever Sunset showed up at the hospital to read Thunder Dash's memory before Rainbow died. And to answer your second question I hadn't given any thought to that but probably not so that it would add to Twilight's bitterness.

I hate to make such a mention in a chapter with such a heavy ending, but I get the feeling that the something that happened between Sunset and the Twilights involved a lot of booze, mistaken identities, and accidental discharge.

In Rainbow's End, you said that Sunset died before Rainbow. Now, Twilight is trying to deal with Rainbow's death while going to visit Sunset in this chapter. Which is it?
8913496 Rainbow died before Sunset. In Friendship Is Forever, the chapter The End Of The Rainbow Sunset returned to Equestria to read Thunder Dash's memories of Rainbow's accident. You gotta keep in mind that this takes place during the events of Friendship Is Forever.
I'll look into rewriting Rainbow's End so it isn't quite as confusing.
