I too think that this would have been a much better ending. Maybe if they sped through Rainbow Dash seeing her friends as zombies and them chasing and maybe breaking into the barn a little bit. I don't know. I just think that this would've made a much better ending.

It must be hard for the writers to teach her lesson without making her friend look like they're in the wrong (and I say "look like" because outright saying it is debatable).
Why isn't there more "28 Pranks Later" or "Mysterious Mare-Do-Well" accusation fics? Next to "A Canterlot Wedding" these two are the most call-out-able.

Good story, although, there's one point you didn't address.
The others tried to talk to Rainbow Dash about going too far with her pranks at the beginning, which she blew off and then doubled down on the pranks.
I think a better angle to take was that everyone did the zombie prank out of necessity to get Dash's attention after talking to her didn't work.

Rewatch the episode and you'll notice that at no point did any of RD's friends tell her to stop. In the beginning of the episode, all they did was mock her pranks as lazy, giving her the impression that she needed to up her game.
And when they sent Pinkie to talk to her, she was all, "Eh, maybe you shouldn't.....?"
No. What they should have done was put their foot down and go, "Rainbow, your pranks are out of control, and you're going to hurt someone. You NEED. To STOP."
This is reasonable! and it's a good story too
