Alright, everyone! You probably thought I ran away with your money, didn't you? Well, I'm happy to announce that wasn't the case. However, as I'm certain you've noticed, there's been a distinct lack of chapters being published. That's because of college finals, a mandatory family vacation that was more work than play, and my brother's wedding. That, and getting ready for my two year excursion out of the country. As I say somewhere in my story, "That explains it, but doesn't excuse it."
So here's the deal. I'm promising a chapter a day, BARE MINIMUM and if I don't hold to it, I'll commit seppuku or something because the very last thing I want to do is scam you out of your money. I will return it all if it comes to it. But I'll do all I can to get this done. Here's a list of what needs to happen:
1 ] Finish actually writing the story.
2 ] Edit all 495 (current) pages of the story (as listed in OpenOffice)
3 ] Compile it all into an eBook, with a cover, table of contents, the works
4 ] Compile it into a separate eBook to send to CreateSpace for publishing, with different margins and whatever else is needed for the physical creation
5 ] Order a trial copy (I'll probably have to skip this since I've painted myself into a corner. Guess I'll just have to get it right the first time.)
6 ] Mass order the rest of the copies I'll be sending out
7 ] Sign them all (comment with suggestions on how I should handle this. Do you want them signed with my real name, or my pen name, Erindor? Actually, the same issue goes for the author's spot on the cover. Real name or pen name?)
8 ] Ship them out to all my wonderful and ludicrously patient readers
9 ] Do steps 6 and 8 but with the t-shirts
10] Get my silly tablet driver working and do the author-drawn art, or else switch to a different computer for that
11] Consider my place in the universe
12] Laugh at how close it was and cheer that I managed to make it, or else hold my head in shame and become a hermit. By the way, anybody have good survival tips for living in the woods?
All of this needs to happen by June 5th. Realistically, by May 31st. It's possible. It's going to be close. I will never cut it this close again.
IF YOU'D LIKE TO HELP:
Please claim a chapter, read it over, and suggest edits. This will allow me to focus on finishing the story and getting everything else prepared. More information, and a sign up sheet, at: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1L7_4_L8oa-KysFtU85MHsN_D5jYZ2IQcqBzD6mY6ELQ/edit
Thank you very much for your love and support! Let's wrap this story up.

After the release I hope you're not planning on making any money off these publications.
And out of curiosity why has this even proceeded to that stage? Not that i'm attempting to imply that your fanfiction and writing style are sub par compared to that of other writers but still, it's a my little pony fanfic.
Do you already have the cover art decided on or would you need any help in that department?, I could probably help you make something good, even if its just the meta spectre design you made (which is now my boot animation BTW), but spruced up or made all shiny and pretty lemme know :

It's not the first fic to become published—Fallout: Equestria, Past Sins and Flight of the Alicorn have all become published. It's not that unusual. Kinda. There's a trend, at the very least.

Fallout: Equestria was never published I believe, as Kkat put a stop to it because the publishers were doing so without his/her permission or something like that... though I wouldn't want to see FO: E published anyhow.
Past Sins and flight of the alicorn are news to me, but still, it's fanfiction for christ sake.
And if I remember correctly there is some legal issues pertaining to making any kind of money off work from a copyright without granted permission, but i'm unsure if there's any repercussions for things such as kickstarters seeing as the money is supposedly going to the publishing of the book itself, as it will be free in the end.
Pfft, claim a chapter for editing? I can do you one better than that-- I'll do all goddamm 60 of 'em before that June 5th deadline. If I can do 18K in a day and a half, I can do 150K in half a month. Only thing that could stop me is getting employed, and since I still haven't gotten so much as a friggin' interview, I don't think that's really likely.
The best tip I can give you for living in the woods is this- keep your eyes on the trees, and gets lots of traps and seeds. You'll want to be producing your own food, and the traps will give you immediate, year round food, while the seeds will let you supplement it with vegetables.

I think that would qualify as fair use, actually- not sure.
I know you wanna get this finished, but please. Do not rush it.

I think the legal shenanigans only come in if you try to make a profit from it. At least, Hasbro has no responsibility to act until you start making a profit, although they can put down their foot at any time. So if you set prices to be the same as puishing costs, I think you can get away with it. I think so, anyway. I kinda lack a law degree, so don't trust me on this.
But I agree with you; this is fanfiction, and My Little Pony fanfiction at that. No offence to the author (as I'm quite enjoying this fic) but I don't see the need to publish this, or any other piece of fanfiction. If you're going to publish something, publish original fiction.

What he said.
Yay erindor isnt dead!
Unless this is his friend or something typing for him
Anyways, thanks for the update! glad to here your still kickin.
I dont know which i prefer with names, i was leaning towards erindor for want to keep your personal privacy but now that i think about it, it doesnt really matter now does it?
Anyways, good luck with the writing! i would claim a chapter but i have my hands full atm :(
See ya around!
2561032 Fanfiction like this and stuff like PMVs on Youtube fall under fair use because they are derivative non-profit. The moment the author pockets so much as a penny, Hasbro can legally stomp all over him if they wish. Will they? Judging by past experience, not likely. They usually don't get too close to the fanfiction (and for very good reason, publicly acknowledging any content that is not strictly PG could get ugly very fast), and on top of that people make and sell various forms of merchandise without recourse. Unless he really starts raking in cash from this, Hasbro will likely continue to turn a blind eye.
To everyone saying "this is fanfiction y u publish?": People asked him to, and people payed for him to. I'm neither here nor there on the matter, but enough people wanted it that he started the kickstarter (or whatever site he used, I think it was KS) and enough people payed for it that he could go forward with publishing.
Also, just as a general rule, you're not likely to find many people who will do editing here. You're better off submitting a request to an actual group for that particular purpose. While I'm sure a good chunk of your readers would love to help, it's a bit of a catch-twenty on how many will actually have the skills and/or free time to do any editing (although I grant you the 1-5K words of any given chapter aren't that much).
Good luck with the tight schedule. It will be rough, but push forward!
