As we head into 2020, Opportunity may have earned his retirement in Ponyland, but a new challenger rises. Later this year, a new Mars Rover will head towards the red planet. (Two actually, but ESA has already named their rover Rosalind Franklin.)
More than a year after its final transmission and over half a year after the official end of the mission, the little rover that could continues to bring the world together.

NASA has announced the name of the Mars 2020 Rover today, and it is *drum roll* PERSEVERANCE!
And as you may remember from my earlier blog post this year, Perseverance was one of my favorites among the nine finalists of the Name the Rover Contest.
I'm sure Oppy is smiling right now, in its final resting place Perseverance Valley on Mars, as the journey continues.
