This story is a sequel to The One True King.

A new age of monsters had come at last.

Coexistence, an idea that once seemed to be a fading dream, was made possible, and the Gods of Old had returned to the world of ponies. For a time, all was at peace. For a time, the Titans and the creatures of Equus could live together in a fabled harmony made true. But peace, as all things, could never last.

Ancient rivalries are being made new. Legendary monsters are reigniting a war long-forgotten. Terror is growing on every tide as an old enemy grows in the shadows. It’s up to the heroes of Equestria to form unconventional bonds, discover the primordial evil living beneath their world, and fight a battle they could never have prepared for.

It's been nine years since Twilight's ascension, and her relationship with her friends has never been stronger. While many things have changed about their respective lives, Twilight and her friends remain very close.

Unfortunately, their heroism will need to be called upon again, but this time, they may not be enough. The Nightmare Moon Incident had one more complication, one final loose end. One pony, thought forever lost to the passage of time, returns. And she will have her mother free... or die trying.

Everything seemed to be normal for our friend Valiant, that is until a star is on the cosp of going supernova. His home world is now on the threshold of its demise. Leaving his parents with a tearful goodbye, and watched his world be destroyed. His destination, Equestria. Will he be able adapt to his new life? The world is a cruel place. Everything was going perfectly for Celestia. She was happy, married, and Equestria was thriving. Funny how everything can be stolen so quickly, how the world can crush your joy and leave you with nothing. Now Celestia wanders broken and alone in a city of ghost.
