MLP:FiM Rewatch Project. Episode 1 & 2 · 2:36pm Sep 29th, 2022

Today I started my project of rewatching ALL of MLP:FiM. Today was Episodes 1 & 2. I have not rewatched Season 1 in a while but I'm glad to restart it.

I don't have many faults with this episode but based on the later season openers and finales it's not my favorite. It gives us a good introduction to each one of the characters as well as their elements. If not predictable it was thoroughly enjoyable. From the immediate first re-viewing Rainbow Dash and Rarity stuck out to me as great.

I don't have many gripes with this episode but I don't have many thoughts about it either. It works well as a show for children ages 6-11 but also being enjoyable as an adult or any older teenager. The design of Nightmare Moon stuck out to me as still one of the best villain designs throughout the whole show.

One thing I do dislike is Twilight in this episode, while she does end up learning friendship and kindness; Twilight was a dick. I enjoy the more sarcastic witty Twilight shown in early episodes until she got semi-flanderized (which I don't find an issue with personally, she's still entertaining.) But in episode one she was sort of plain rude.

She didn't actually appreciate her friends and didn't consider them friends AFTER realizing the Elements of Harmony thing, she was consistently annoyed with them through the way until they showed their element post helping. And Celestia saying she never told her to not believe in it but to just make some friends is blatantly false, the letter is quite literally heard in the episode.

I still do think it was a great episode though, not terrible but not S Tier. 8.5/10 is my rating.
