Jaret's father was the well known General Yalger, a veteran royal guard in Canterlot. However, an incident had caused Yalger to retire for good. Then he turned his attention on 3-year old Jaret, attempting to make a clone of himself.
Jaret had a really hectic life. He was treated like a military soldier. Whenever during target practice, if he missed a perfect aim then he would be grounded for a month. Jaret would always wake up early in the morning to exercise and begin his intense training. Throughout these years, Jaret had wondered if this was his life purpose.
At the age of 9, Jaret and his family moved to Ponyville because his father had a new job. There, he met childhood friends Reedo, Macaius, Atreyu and Lathar. Whenever he always hanged out with them, he would always argue with Yalger, who thought that they were a bad influence. Jaret had enough of this and locked himself in his bedroom for 12 hours straight.
At the age of 17, Yalger had enrolled his son into the Royal Academy. Jaret had no choice but to leave to Canterlot. Jaret had been the top ace of all the courses, as such with the intense ones. By the age of 19, he had become an official royal guard, under Captain Shining Armor's unit. As Jaret managed to excel at everything, however, the results did not seem to match up to Yalger's expectations.
Jaret finally had enough. He began to fail in some training missions and create tension between him and the other guards in the unit. Yalger had no choice but to pull some strings just to get Jaret to stay in the unit. Enraged by Yalger's selfishness to force him into the unit, Jaret had quit and disappeared from Canterlot for good. This was the last time he met contact with Yalger.
A year later, Jaret had reunited with Reedo, Macaius, Atreyu and Lathar. Finding out that Equestria had formed an alliance with the corrupted country of Calidith, Jaret was forced back into the guard. This had caused him to go into deep hiding. Luckily, he had met his old school friends and formed a team with them.
