The Decade (2010-2019) in Review: RL Edition · 9:05pm Dec 5th, 2019
A lot of folks are reflecting on the past decade (2010-2019) in anticipation of 2020, so here's my decade. Lots of ups and downs. I also have been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (high-functioning Autism) since 1999, but I managed to earn a Bachelor's of Liberal Arts from University of Rio Grande in 2002.
2010 - After leaving Staples (4 years service), it was time for a change. After much contemplation and support from my mother, I went back to school and earned my Masters Degree in Social Sciences from Ohio University-Lancaster.
Aug. 2012 - Earned Master's Degree in Social Sciences and then offered a position at Fairfield Christian School in Hamilton Ohio. Yes, I would make the move late September 2012 to start Oct. 1 that year and eventually leave that job 5 years later. I really enjoyed teaching science and history, but again, change is inevitable.
I played church softball for several teams in Hamilton, Ohio, as well as for the ones in Newark (Newark Nazarene church and 1st Baptist, Heath. The team I played for in Hamilton, Ohio won their division in the summer of 2017. This would be one of the many high points in this decade.
Oct. 2017- This would be one of those times I felt really down. I was informed that they couldn't afford me at the former Christian School where I worked faithfully since 2012. After much frustration/schedule changing, etc., I decided it would be for the best (for my spiritual and emotional well-being) I would resign and move back home. I was in my 40's, and again, had to rebuild, recharge, recover, and "rebrand". The school closed its doors in May 2018 (I left December 2017). I tried after Christmas to find employment, found it at Metro PCS cell Phone company, then was let go after two weeks because I wasn't "tech savvy" enough. So, that was in January 2018.
June 2018 - After several frustrating attempts to recover and "rebrand", I obtained employment at Licking/Knox Goodwill in Newark, Ohio. They had a place on Hopewell Drive in Heath, Ohio that needed workers. I was transferred to the warehouse in September this year.
October 2018 - My maternal grandmother went home to be with the Lord at the age of 91. Even though we know she is in a better place, we all have wonderful memories of pizza dinners, family outings, helping us practice for our driver's examinations, and other special events. We will see each other again in Heaven.
With Christmas 2019 coming in two weeks, let's remember the real meaning of Christmas and hope that 2020 will be better than the previous year.
