Life of a Project - Kiss Kiss · 6:27pm May 14th, 2019
Kiss Kiss was a victim of burnout.
In February of 2018, I got in my head I wanted to do a Rarijack fic. While it had never been a fav ship of mine I'd come around on it recently and was excited to give it a shot. Unfortunately, that motivation hit at basically the worst time. During that month I'd released two chapters for StRA, which was a fair amount of writing in and of itself. Jumping into a new project while also trying to hammer out Rave's next chapter was a recipe for disaster. It didn't help that I had a very lackluster premise too. AJ gets off of work, meets up with Rarity, and then they just... fuck, for lack of a better word.
So while a short burst of inspiration carried me through about a thousand words or so, when the time came to actually write the clop I was hitting a brick wall. Got sick of writing right at the time I came to a point where I was out of ideas. Maybe it would've been better if I knew exactly what I wanted them to do together, but I feel like I still would have crashed on the sheer burnout alone.
I'd also ground to a halt on Rave at this point, which is why nothing was posted for it during March. I'd hammer away at it little by little, but I was only able to get a burst of writing needed to finish the chapter after I'd crawled out of the burnout pit. Unfortunately, once I did I wasn't all that keen on returning to Kiss Kiss (then just called Untitled Rarijack Clop, because I'm good at naming things).
Like I mentioned in my blogpost about StRA, I really needed to expand on my stories a little and come up with new ideas to get me motivated to continue them. But with Kiss Kiss, no ideas were coming. I guess you could call it writer's block, but only for the one project. I was fine writing other things at the time whereas this one gave me trouble. Eventually I worked out that I'd have Rarity tie Applejack down, but I still didn't know what would come after. Just straight sex seemed bland to me.
At this point, I really needed to just buckle down and finish Rave, so I dropped Kiss Kiss in the Pigeon Hole and hoped it would get a miracle one day. And, considering it was eventually posted, it did.
Later into the year I'd developed a rather tame lipstick fetish that I was experimenting with. Eventually I got curious about what would happen if I combined it with diapers, which is where the kiss mark idea from the story proper started to develop. I didn't consider my Rarijack story right away as a candidate, but I knew I did want the story to include Rarity because of course she'd be the one to initiate the make up. I kicked around a few ideas for new one-shots I could do with it, but wasn't grabbed by anything in particular. That was when I dug into the Pigeon Hole to see what older ideas I had that could work. That's when I rediscovered Kiss Kiss, and the puzzle pieces clicked.
It was basically perfect. The set up had all been written months ago, so I could jump right into the "good stuff" which was a big burst of motivation too. I banged out the rest of the fic in a day or so and was ready to post.
That's about all for this one. Discovering new things and trying out new combinations ended up saving the day for this fic. I'm really glad it didn't languish in the Pigeon Hole with all my other unfinished works. Hopefully I can come up with new stuff for a bunch of my other started-and-stopped fics someday soon.
I loved Kiss Kiss. Rarity's teasing made it really hot, especially with the messy diaper play. I hope to see more stories like that in the future.

Here's hoping I get the chance to write more stories like that. They're fun!
