Splatoon 2 Oekaki Gallery (or: The Wacky Inkings of Inklings) · 8:19pm Apr 2nd, 2019
One of Splatoon 2's most interesting and offbeat features is the oekaki boards each player can post, which are the only real method of self-expression in the game and have tremendous potential for abuse. They also have potential to amaze and impress with users showing off unholy pixel art talents. And a little of everything in between.
Here's a sample of what Inklings waste time doing when they're not playing in matches.
I'll keep that in mind next time I need to start a cooking fire.
This is an amazing person with the best attitude.
A common example of most oekaki.
The next one's gonna say he's old AND gay.
This kind of thing is always amazing.
They'd be sea urchins in this world, right?
Yes. ALWAYS Booyah back. Not only is it just plain polite, it actually powers up a weapon.
Again: Drawn. One. Pixel. At. A. Time.
Isn't online gaming all ABOUT salt, though?
Some people have too much time on their hands.
Wow. Those Pixel Artists should get medals...............
No yeah, the pixel art some of these people create IN GAME are nothing short of MASTERPIECES.
I think there's a way to put pictures into the game to pixelate them, but I could be wrong.
Some people do it by hand. Others... use extra hardware.
I didn't quite get that last one at first, but then it clicked and I almost choked on my drink.

Yeah, I've been starting to suspect that as well.
The drawing feature was in Splatoon 1 as well via Miiverse, and it was the most popular usage of the platform. In fact, Splatoon 1 player base dropped significantly when Miiverse got canned because it was such a huge part of the game.
They essentially remade part of Miiverse to get this feature back for Splatoon 2, and then stuck it on a Twitter API. So this feature will stay as long as Twitter stays up.
Also, some of these drawings will show up in other places in-game, as graffiti on walls etc. I'm not sure whether that depends on the post getting Yeah!'ed, or it just happens to random posts.
One of my favorite art pieces was one done by Agent CH, which was done before the wizards vs knights splatfest. It had an inkling using splat bomb rush that looked like Megumin yelling “Ex-Plosion!”
Truly, a masterpiece.
Just in case you are not aware, since it seemed as though you were confused about it, that one oekaki with Garfield is actually a reference to a parody video. Just in case you didn't know.
Also, thanks to you I now know these drawings have an actual name.

Or until Twitter changes its API and causes the feature to suddenly break for some dumb reason. And you know that can and most likely will happen, just look at how restricted the API is for third party Twitter clients.
how does one use this feature?
