So there's this story... · 3:51am Feb 14th, 2018
About a year ago, I had a rudimentary structure of a story pop to mind. "Oh, that's cute," I thought to myself. "Surely no one else would want to hear this story." I came up with every reason under the sun to keep this story quiet: it was too preachy, it was a drawn-out "letter to Celestia" type of moral, I've never written anything fictional before and people will hate it.
A few weeks passed. One night, after a multiple-hour-long call over a Discord server with a few friends, I joked that I had a bedtime story to share as a goodnight present, and that it probably wasn't any good. I don't recall whether my microphone wasn't working or there was too much background noise for me to talk, but I ended up typing out that old story rather than narrating it. One of those wonderful people took it upon himself to read aloud as I wrote, and I realized that all of the other side conversations had stopped as everyone waited for the next story blurb. At its conclusion, one of them urged me to polish it and submit it somewhere.
This story has been sitting on my hard drive ever since. In that time, I've petitioned many folks to look over my keyboard mashing and assure me that I'm "doing it right." Every last one of these people have my heartfelt thanks for all of their help, especially those who gave me advice that I really didn't want to follow but which ended up strengthening my little bedtime story.
Before I hit that publish button, I'd like to ask others who have stories on this site a few questions. Are there formatting pitfalls I should be aware of? How on earth does this "submitting a story to groups" thing work? Should I mention that I intended for this story to be a bedtime story in the description? In author's notes? Should I not mention it at all?
Send it my way if you want criticism. I think you know how thorough I can be.
As far as presentation goes, I'd have to read it to give you my opinion.
I'd like to read it.
