"Getting Started Writing Pony Fanfiction" panel from Whinny City Pony Con 2016! · 12:11pm Apr 6th, 2016
It's finally done uploading! Come one, come all; discover how ridiculous I truly am IRL!
Lllllllllllllllet's get ready to Rrrrrrrrrrruuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmble!
I decided to wear the Vinyl Scratch outfit while I was presenting after all. I just didn't get to wear it enough during the con. It also turned out afterwards that the Discord shirt I was planning to wear had shrunk pretty badly in the wash, so that wouldn't have worked out anyway. Oh, and here are those slides again in case you want them.
Let me know what you think, and please give it a like/upvote/subscribe or whatever!
And yes, I know I kind of spazzed-out at a few points. What can I say, I was super-excited to finally get to talk to fellow humans about this cool thing I've been doing for the last year!
Ooh, nice! Some pretty nice advice there, 'specially the part about writing first drafts. It's a massive problem I face myself, though the problem is more that the more I write the more I start to feel like the plot is going nowhere. Sometimes I intentionally make random grammar mistakes just to get myself to focus on something else.
Oh, and also, when I heard you mention that GDocs thing, my brain kinda went 'Oh yeah!'. Actually, that little bit of text that you sent me that time was my first time really editing anything. Or, the first activity of any kind on Fimfiction, really.
...so, how's the Pascoite pre-reading request going?
3851716 Thanks man! Yeah, sometimes the hardest thing is just getting started. You want to produce something good, but especially when you're starting out, it's hard to know if what you're writing is good, bad, has issues, or whatever... and the one thing you know for sure is that it does have some amount of issues!
That thing I showed you is still just as it was. I like it as a scene or a couple of scenes, but I never managed to develop the larger story it was supposed to be part of. But I wouldn't have known that if I hadn't written it, and I wouldn't have continued learning if I had stopped and forced myself to make it work before moving on to something else.
Sometimes the best thing--maybe only thing--you can do is try something, fail, and learn from the experience.
... And I will totally ask Pascoite to read something. I will! I just need to find the right project. (I'm not procrastinating, I swear!)
I liked the presentation, it was... Verrrry Nice!

How many ponies actually showed up? "More than zero" is nice, for sure, but how many pone brains did you edu-micate?
3853620 Huzzah! It started out with 6, but people kept coming in throughout. There were probably ~25 by the end.
Of course my inner Rarity was a little bummed when it was only 6, but there was some stiff competition during my time slot: a kids' panel with Andrea Libman & Kazumi Evans singing, and a guest of honor panel with some other legit people.

Sorry, but anytime somepony uses that word, all I can think of is this:

It looks like it was fun. I dig the outfit and you voice sounds like that of someone who does radio, or podcasts as an occupation :).
3855435 Thanks! You're too kind.
I do have a couple more dramatic readings in the works, and at some point they'll see the light of day...
Will you be back at WCPC2017!?
4442285 Yes I will!

Jackpot! You're pone number 2 that I've found going. Any ideas whoever else? If you'd be so kind to just hit me up on my blog about it, I'm trying to get anyone who I know will be there to have their info in one spot so I can hit them up all when WCPC starts up. :) I can't wait to see all these pones in real life!
