George Carlin is my favorite "philosopher." Lyra is best pony. Raindrops is best pegasus. Sunset Shimmer is best human.

Decision Time · 9:22am Feb 11th, 2016

I have good news and bad news about the next chapter of Greater Lights: Adaptation. The good news is that the chapter is basically done. I just need to revise a couple of conversations between Derren and Nurse Faran. The bad news is that the chapter has somehow exploded into another monster with over 20K words.

My question for the readers is this: Do you want me to split the chapter up into more easily digestible chunks, or do you want the whole enchilada all at once? If you do want the chapter split, do you want me to post all parts on the same day, or spread it out over a week or so?

I'd say do it in two parts. It'll be hard to read otherwise.

split it and spread it out as you feel it needs.
it will give us readers something to look forward too and you a jump on the next chapter.

I wouldn't mind reading a mega monster chapter.

I'm a fan of monster chapters. If it's too big to read in one sitting, I can come back to it later.

Please do it in two parts. I find myself skimming more when I know the chapter is long and then missing information.

I'm not going to help in the decision....I like the larger chapters. I'm a binge reader, so the larger, the better.

So far, there seems to be an even split in opinions. :rainbowlaugh:

I'm really going to have to think about this one.

Monster chapter please.

20k is fine... 60k is fine... I may have read Moby Dick in one night and don't care about chapter size at all. I may be lying. Then again, what's the harm in splitting it and just posting them both at once? Those reading it all have to click again; those wanting smaller chapters get them. Either way, happy to see this *cough*finally*cough* get an update.

Hmmmm... I fail to see any 'bad' news here.:trixieshiftright:

I'll read straight through either way! :scootangel: (hoping if it is split they will be released simultaneously)

All-in-one, please. I'd like a large side of fries, a large chapter, and a diet coke, trying to watch my figure.

I don't care either way, although I would say to split it if there is a sensible way you can split early parts you are done with from later parts that you are still editing. That would let you post one chapter now and the rest in a day or two when it is ready.

Unfortunately, there's no way to do that, since one of the parts that requires revision is in the first half of the chapter, and the other part is in the second half of the chapter. :applejackunsure:

3748859 Could you break off the first third or quarter then? 5~7k words is a perfectly respectable chapter after all.

I'll see what I can do.

I'd say you could easily split in half, Normally I don't care much about chapter length but after reading a story where the author posted a 90k word update I'm considerably more wary of chapters that go over 10k. Any particular scene break will do.

Doesn't matter to me how you slice it or not, still going to be read.

I just finished revising the first half of the chapter. However, I'm only going to have enough time to copy it over to FiMFic before I have to get ready for work tonight. I'll format it for FiMFic and publish it in the morning.

3749133 Sounds good. I'm looking forward to reading it after work tomorrow and the rest of it sometime this weekend.
