In the first act, we see Fluttershy prepping for Nightmare Night with her animal friends. I really liked seeing the spider close the windows.
Egad, how can Fluttershy fit comfortably under that bed?
Angel is being a self-entitled brat again, demanding carrots and refusing anything else.
I like how the theme song presented different clips explaining the basic character traits.
Granny Smith is not being a jerk here. She's advertising for the haunted maze, admittedly excessive for someone she knows. But maybe she just thinks Fluttershy is trying to be brave, and she's setting her up to succeed against the terrifying maze. She just doesn't know Fluttershy very well, but how well does one of your friend's grandma's know you?
It was nice to see Fluttershy trying to be brave, but she was watering down her whiskey. Just wearing a little black dress could be any number of things, from a vampire queen to a spy.
And she picks a maskless party guest.
Speaking of costumes, apparently astronauts are canon now. Also, Rainbow is just trying to have a good time. She's rude, but Fluttershy is really cramping the style here.
Toilet paper? Such disturbing implications! I also love how historical costumes are "in", but we only see Rarity's sister wearing one.
I'm not a fan of the "Fluttershy is just scared of everything" scene. But I like how her friends support her, and it sets up the tea party scene. Also, Nightmare Moon is a dartboard.
Fluttershy has never been to the Nightmare Night Festival before, so it's not surprising how scary this is. However, we get to see something of Fluttershy's dark side, a la Putting Your Hoof Down. The ponies have been completely distraught by similar situations to what Fluttershy describes, but having it explained is a good example of why "show, don't tell" is a rule. In addition, they are expecting a monster to jump out at them, not hear about how uninvited guests have showed up at a party they're not even hosting.
Here is when Angel shines. Not denying his evil nature, but fully supporting Fluttershy hat the same time.
Why doesn't Applejack have to work in the corn maze? Maybe the Apples work in shifts?
Fluttershy is a genuine master of stagecraft. Her "freaky knowledge of sewing" makes a comeback, sewing a fish monster costume for a bear.
The ending scene was my favorite. In some ways, Fluttershy is in the same place she was before. But now she's comfortable, not terrified of Nightmare Night, and having fun with her friends. She gave it a fair try, and decided she doesn't want to scare ponies or be scared.
I'd give it 8.5 out of 10.
