Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists.

When she was birthed with horn and wings she was thought to be a pegacorn, a rare and blessed blending of the tribes, whose long life and power brought wealth and stature. Then the guards came, seeking the first alicorn born in over a thousand years.

It's the obligatory new year blog post.

And yes, I am posting this at around midnight on new year. I have a nasty cold, so I decided to disobey nurgle's one command and stay home.

    Just for kicks

I'm mucking around with Lulu for a work-related project (very boring stuff) and thought I would do a quality test with something fun.

    The odd things

I've just been reading through old comments on my scraps story, after publishing yet another chunk from the ancient cutting room floor. It's remarkable how many of the commenters are still around - but also how many logged off for the last time, soon after making their last comment there.

    But in brighter news

While I'm not making any promises about any particular project here, I am actually writing again. I figure if I write enough of something, some pony words might drop out somewhere along the line as well. You never know. What I'm working on at the moment is essentially a re-write of a story I read a long time ago; an old pulp sci-fi tale, about a spaceship that manages to get lost in the

So it would appear The Most Dangerous Game has reached its conclusion · 9:38pm Jul 28th, 2014

The conclusion was... predictable? No that's really not the right word. Foreseeable. Easily discerned. Once the top five were announced I don't think there was anyone who doubted how things would turn out simply because of who was involved.

Incidentally Succession placed tenth ninth. Given who I was up against that's not really a bad thing. The reason it didn't place higher was due to the criticisms levelled at it, and those are certainly interesting.

The most common issue was that Morning Glory was overshadowed by Twilight, despite being the main character. I don't disagree. Twilight definitely stole the show, while Morning Glory served more as a window to the world at large. This was actually something of a deliberate choice on my part, stemming from the philosophy that part of an OC's role is to play cypher - that is, to be a means to explore the setting for the reader. A well-written OC is a balancing act between this role and the role of being part of the actual story.

Unfortunately, I stumbled just a little. In trying to avoid Morning Glory overwhelming the story and becoming Alicorn OC Sue #1729, I let her be pushed too far to the side. If I hadn't had to face the wordcount limit I probably could have explored her character a great deal more and come to a more satisfying conclusion with her. Instead I'l have to do that in future fics.

Yes, I just said that. :derpytongue2:

Hell yeah.

I'm excited to see more exploration of this universe.

Sounds good! I didn't think Twilight overshadowed Morning Glory, but I wasn't part of the people in charge of it. Would've put it in my top five though. So looking forward to seeing more about Morning Glory from you.

Actually, it looks like you placed 9th (not 10th) since the first row in the rankings is the column headers.

2323989 Well fancy that! I should pay more attention. :facehoof:

2323817 2323819 2323915 2323933

I hesitate to call it a sequel, though it'll probably be that in the end. I've got a lot of ideas I can play with and a lot of things that need to be explained. Zecora for instance. That one seems to have intrigued (and occasionally annoyed) quite a lot of people.

hmpf, if I could I would have voted for you. I wouldn't have put it before CiG though, god damn I read that story 3 times by now.

EDIT: Now to read the stories that are supposedly better than yours, gotta have an 'informed' opinion after all.

It was fun and I had a blast, but it turns out I channeled Green Grass more than I thought :pinkiehappy: (From TTDD)
Celestia’s voice continued, “Ninth place in Milo City’s Running of the Leaves this year is quite good. I understand your students convinced you to compete.”
“Yes, Your Highness,” replied Green Grass in pure unthinking relief.
“Regrettable that medals were only given out for the top eight places.” :facehoof:

Of the contest stories I read, i would have placed this one second, but that's probably due to my own personal tastes. Looking forward to anything else you decide to write in this setting.

You're still first in my heart, Archonix.

SUCCESSION WAS AMAZING! I DEMAND A RECOUNT OF THE HANGING CHADS!

Hurray for more morning glory!

I'd definitely be up for more Succession universe expansion. 9th place isn't bad at all. How many entries were there? 64? You placed in the top 14 percent, then.
