I have an idea, and I need some feedback because this might be a big one · 6:50pm April 10th
It goes without saying, I'm not the fastest writer around these parts. Not anymore at least. Anymore it takes time to get an idea figured out, written down, and refined to the point I want to release it for being read. But this doesn't lend itself well to getting the chapters and updates churned out. And unfortunately it leaves you with more ideas being backlogged than you want to admit. It doesn't help writer's block any.
And then I got some advice from one of my readers:
"Yes, writer's block is a gydfa but you can try to write other things while you put that story on hold or literally write humorous one-shots, they help with the blocks and the muses."
This got me thinking up what might be either an ambitious or disastrous idea to attempt. A title along the lines of "Into the Charlie-verse: where idea go to ferment" that acts as a mashing up/meeting ground of the continuities/universes of my various stories where random ideas are dumped and developed alongside the characters who'd be involved with them. Randomness, OOCness, behind-the-scenes stuff, and a fair amount of meta/4th wall matters from everyone involved as things are hashed out and fine tuned.
Should it be tried? Or is it better to just leave that on the cutting room floor and get back to work on the stories everyone actually came to see?
I mean, that sounds like a good idea. I've seen/read other works on here, and they occasionally do this in-between some chapters
If you want to, go for it.
It's honestly a good idea to consider, I know a lot of authors do this to refresh their minds and muse.
I guess the question would be, do you trust yourself to actually go back to your main stories? Or would doing this send you spinning off into eternal procrastination?
You should do what you want, if you want to go in another direction to try and prevent burnout then I say go for it. At the very least I appreciate that you haven't decided to just fully stop writing/canceling your current work so that you may revisit it in the future. Give it a shot.
