Well, it depends on what you were looking at during this point in time. If you had gone onto any website, you may have had to accept cookies, which can be put onto your computer, but a third party could have gotten their hands on that information (basically harvesting the data from your computer via the cookies) to which you get said ads thrown at you.
Seriously, I may have just simplified it to a certain extent, but technology knows us more than we know ourselves.
