Well it was how you handled Celestia been daybreaker again.

1. You could've set it up a little war going on inside her head and she would have clear reasons to way she would reject her darker self.

2. Your reason to why she would want to be her darker self again was because she wanted to be a bit more like a mother then she could easily avoided that by going to the Canterlot orphanage and easily adopting an orphen and no one would try to stop her because she is Princess Celestia and I'm pretty sure she can get away with anything.

now if you wanted to make it more interesting basically add a third party who is the real villain. or have the ponys of Equestria be afraid of her and want her off the thrown.

But these are just my thoughts it's your story so write it the way you want.
