I just found this story, and I just fell in love with it, I really hope I get to finish it.
Please, just this once I would like to see the end of someones wonderfull story.
Weather it ends on a hiatus or not I desperately want to finish this story!

Thank you very much, comments like that are something that any and every writer lives for. And as to your question, it's because the are not the Marines that we know. A "Marine" is a soldier that is trained to fight on land or sea, or in this case, space. In the universe Jaze is from, basically all the world's nations were destroyed, and much of the culture was lost in the intervening years. The word itself took on slightly new meaning when humanity took to space, though for the most part it is the same. So, in short, the SSM has little to no relation with the American Marine Corps, other than they are both a class of soldier classified as "Marine".

I absolutely loved your story and I hate to admit it but some of the parts had me in tears. I also found a couple parts to be a bit gory for my taste(I hate seeing innocent creatures gunned down) but such is war. I was surprised by Trixie being the object of the soldiers affection but it worked out well. Completely changed my view of her. Overall It was one of the best stories I have read so far and I eagerly await the sequel. I am a bit curious though, why did you change the marines uniform and motto? Being a former marine that kind of thing tends to stick out to me.
