As I have experienced the many challenges presented in writing fanfiction from this site (writing my own and looking at others), I seem to have come upon a problem that I cannot understand: Is it okay to leave certain material in stories up to the readers' interpretation/imagination?

Not really bland, but expected. Of course, not doing the safe bland type things means you end up like me. Better at critiquing than writing, because you know the tricks, but just can't perform them.
