Creating pages for fanfics on TV Tropes, or using fanfics as examples on TV Tropes. Sure, it always strikes me as a little bit self indulgent seeing a bunch of fan works listed on many trope pages, but it is also a neat way to direct people towards things which might interest them - I've found a number of fanfics in this way, and it was especially true of me when I first started out reading fanfics. Indeed, I found most of the first few fanfics I read via TV Tropes.

I got extremely tired and tried to go to sleep... only to be roused by a stray thought I had to write down. Afterwards, I couldn't sleep again, only to realize that I had missed doing a repeat of last week's data gathering. It is a bit tedious, and took me about three hours overall between all the compilation and trying to figure out what else I should look at, but it is kind of interesting to see how well our thoughts stack up with reality.

When I wrote The Stars Ascendant, I was certainly hoping it was going to do well, but I was not expecting it to do nearly as well as it did. After four days in the feature box and another week in popular stories, it is now sitting in the 50 highest rated stories on the entire site, and for a few hours last week, it was briefly the single highest rated story on all of FIMFiction.
