I write books, make indie games, love Pokemon and FIM, and have a Ko-Fi, please give me money. Currently working on: Pokemon InfraRed and UltraViolet.
The problem with Glimmer is that who she is, what she is, what her family is, how she's written, and how the writers treat her... these things don't go together. These are handpicked design elements that don't work together.
You already know her backstory, how stupid her reason for Going Flashpoint on the timeline was, what a Mary Sue she is, and how Mary Sueishly she's treated.
Well... Are you familiar with the anime, "Heaven's Lost Property"?
Do not read it if you are under 18. I am emphasizing the shittiness of the world the protagonist came from in a way that will disgust and repulse as many people as possible.
Equestria is so infinitely Perfect that the only way to make the fanfic not feel like the "Silly and childish" better world fantasies of some kid is to constantly inject "Hey, this fic isn't a mindless fluff-fest, it's cool and dark like all good works of literature, I swear! Earth sucks! Earth super-sucks! You know this impossibly nice pony I just met? He was an abused kid kicked out of his home because his parents were evil!" in concentrated liquid form every few paragraphs.
A Mary Sue is typically special because of what she is, while with Gary Stus, it tends to be what he is that makes him special.
In Fallout 1, you can complete a "Kill the radscorpions in this cave" quest easily by detonating something near the cave mouth to seal it up forever, trapping the scorpions inside. You get bonus XP for this.
It, uh... It was an experience.
Dear Princess Celestia
Today I learned that if things seem like they're going nowhere, changing things up can be a big help!
You know what really annoys me about all this? Back in season 1, we wanted something almost like this. We wanted ponies to visit griffon land, draconia, neighpon, the antarctic penguin waterbending country, all kinds of places, and we wanted Celestia and Luna episodes and more MLP lore. We wanted the history of equestria and foreign lands and unusual ponies.
