A budding love, a new family.

Rescued from her horrible parents by Twilight and Rainbow, Scootaloo begins a long journey of recovery from the years of mental and physical abuse. Now Rainbow’s and Twilight’s adopted daughter, she looks forward to what the future has in store for her. However, Scootaloo's happiness and her life are at risk now that her parents have escaped from prison, fully intent on revenge.

Meanwhile, Rainbow and Twilight try to make their relationship work as they face the difficulties of raising a filly together. To accomplish their dream of a happy family, they all must face numerous challenges that will test the strength of their love and friendship.

While Apple Bloom is waiting for her potion to take effect during Twilight Time, a picture of Twilight's family on a nearby shelf brings back long lost memories of her dead mother. She craves her mother's loving touch, and right before she's about to give up on her potion, its contents bursts into life.

Her confidence in her abilities restored and now armed with the necessary knowledge and skills, Apple Bloom is confident that she'll be able to bring her parents back from the dead. She enlists the help of her friends, but they quickly discover that some things are better left in the past.

Rarity has a problem with the way Spike snuggles with her at night. Instead of holding her in his arms like she wants, he simply lays on top of her, smothering her every night. She hates to do it, but she waits until he falls asleep and then pulls herself out from under him, curling up into a small ball in what space is left on the bed. She knows things have to change, but after she brings up the subject, she fears that she may have just done more damage than good.

Alone and afraid, Sunset Shimmer has been living off of the streets in Canterlot ever since she ran away from home. She is barely holding on as it is and winter is coming soon, and Sunset doesn't know how she's going to survive this one. She’s had her eyes on Rainbow Dash for a while, but she doesn’t know how to truly express her feelings. No books were able to properly explain how to cope with her feelings of love, leaving her frustrated and confused. She has tried dropping subtle hints here and there, but Rainbow is oblivious to her advances and Twilight is too nervous to spill her heart out to her.

So she waits, spending many months devising a way to get Rainbow to see her more than just a good friend. Given a set of perfect circumstances, Twilight is finally able to put her plan into action. Now, Twilight might finally be able to see if she can turn her friendship with Rainbow into something wonderful.
