A millennium from now, Equestria has become a utopia. The story follows Star Gazer, a young and ambitious filly who lives in a town segregated from the rest of the country.

In this town however, there are a number of rumours that circulate amongst the children. For example, it has been said a monstrous cat strikes at night and only abducts children; as well, school students are said to disappear mysteriously into thin air.

After Star herself witnesses a horrific case of murder before her own eyes, she vows to unveil the dark and hidden secrets of this supposed Utopian world.

Scootaloo and Diamond Tiara are two hot-blooded ponies who often quarrel. In other words, they couldn't have been less right for one another. So then, why does every pony seem to think that they are in love with each other?! At first, they both detest the idea of being gossiped about as a couple, but after they finally stop fighting long enough to try to get to know each other, new feelings begin to bloom within the two of them.

The Cutie Mark Crusaders are now in high school, and while they've already found their special talents, they are still being tormented by Diamond Tiara, as well as Silver Spoon. After Sweetie Belle notices Silver Spoon's behaviour when Diamond Tiara isn't around, the white mare wants to befriend the bully, much to the disapproval of her friends.

Silver Spoon, on the other hand, solely believes that nopony would befriend another pony without an ulterior motive, making it hard for Sweetie Belle's plans to work.

Twilight loses her magical powers due to a reason unknown to her. She soon begins to question what she should do for the remainder of her life. Meanwhile, Trixie hears of this news, and with the intention on getting revenge on Twilight, decides to pay the librarian a visit. However, when the showpony arrives, she begins to feel differently about her 'rival'.
