I loved this episode.

Not only was Spike badass, but we also gain more insight into his character.
He has confidence issues (knew that one from Power Ponies), but it also shows that he takes great pride in a job well done. Praise means nothing to him unless he feels satisfyed with the job himself, which is probably why he's such a hard worker in the first place.
