Lightning Dust has lost almost everything she held dear but still clings to the hope that she will live her dream of becoming a professional flier. With the Equestria games only weeks away, a new team of professional flier seeks has begun a search for fliers with nerves of steel and hearts of lead. Seizing the opportunity to compete and restart her flying career she jumps at the opportunity into a crowd of renegades and fortune seekers.

It takes more than a bruised ego and a silver badge to put trainee Lightning Dust off her game, but why does she fly off then leaving nothing but a note behind.

Before harmony graced the species of ponies a period of hatred existed between the three tribes. But before the time of mistrust existed a far more brutal era existed where the strongest thrived on the exploits of the defenceless. Amid the power plays and clan struggles that plague the lives of an earth pony family a child dreams of bringing peace to the land and vows to bring order and unity toward his land amidst the chaos of racial warfare.

When the conflict of the two great lands rose to its peak old enemies of both nations, antagonists to every race and creed flourished under the fear cultivated by both sides. But when their world was in turn bathed in Balefire the villains of legend went quiet, their food exhausted, and their homes in ashes they slept. Waiting for a day when the invisible fires would subside and the embers of life would rise from the ground. Captive in a Changeling cocoon a descendant of these enemies is freed to face a new world, a world of violence and hate, a world of slavery and starvation, a world full of opportunity.
