But it is not to last. A mysterious stranger appears in Ponyville, and with the power of a black crystal, steals Twilight's magic from her: her alicorn power, her rainbow power, and even her normal unicorn magic is stripped away. Her friends vow to help her get her powers back, but with seemingly no way to restore it on her own, can Twilight cope with the possibility of being forced to live the rest of her life without her magic?

The Power Patrol- Mistress Mare-velous, Saddle Rager, the Masked Matter-Horn, Zapp, Radiance, and Fili-Second- have defended the streets of Maretropolis from evildoers for many years now. But now, a vigilante prowls the streets of their fair city at night, bringing with him his own brutal version of justice: the dark, menacing Nighthawk. The Power Patrol vow to bring this vigilante to justice, but how can they hope to defeat a foe who knows all their skills and weakness better than they know them themselves?

Sunset Shimmer has adapted to life with her new friends, eagerly counting down the days until thirty moons pass, and the portal to her world reopens. But on the eve of the seventeenth moon, her idyllic life is shattered when magic suddenly manifests in the human world, and a familiar face makes an unexpected reappearance. With only thirteen moons remaining until the portal reopens, Sunset Shimmer and the gang must embark on a journey across the globe, battling fierce monsters and meeting new allies, to save their world from the newly unleashed magical energies.
