Ok, so I'm working on a story and I came upon a small dilemma. When a mare and her stallion form a herd or get married, who takes who last name.

For example. The Cakes. Cup and Carrot. Was it Cup Cake and Carrot (oh lets say Greens) and took her last name, or the traditional Earth practice of the female taking the males last name (say Buttercup) and became Cup Cake.

Or could it be a tribe thing with earth, unicorn, and Pegasus having their own norms.

Ok my fellow ponies, I have a question.

Would it be bad form to go to a convention as an original character?

I was thinking of going in costume (cosplay?) and kind of self inserting or "fleshing out" a nameless pony from a story here on FF.

I do plan on contacting the author of the story and seeing if their ok with it.

This is going to be my first attempt of attending a convention of this nature, and I don't want to step on anyponies hooves if possible.
