It's hard to give a solution without knowing the reason it was included in the first place. From my perspective it doesn't seem needed at all. But it's your story so you should write it how you like!

I actually really appreciated your feedback on my story and I actually agree with what you said about the swap feeling forced. I've been trying to think of a way to make the swap work with the plot in a non-contrived way, but it's been a big hurdle for me. Any ideas for how to make it a bit smoother/less forced?
