After a bit of a scare, what with the firefighters kicking me out of my house ahead of a big old fire, I am safe and sound back home. The fire's turned away, and a bit of mist and rain has come in. We were let back in, and outside of one picture frame and one snowglobe*, nothing was lost. Sure, my dogs were scared out of their little minds, and everyone's nerves were shot to hell, but no one's hurt. Guess there's not a lot else to wish for.

The hills behind my house have been on fire for about a day or two now, and the cops just swung by to let us know to be ready to go at a moments notice. It’s a mandatory fire evacuation. Whether or not they’re going to pull the trigger and have us leave is all up in the air. It looks like it might be an overreaction, but just to be safe, my entire life is now packed up and ready to go at a moments notice.

Right. I’m done. New Trixie chapter. Might take a quick break to write something else, recharge my batteries. Trixie takes a lot out of me.

Well. That snuck up on me. Been here a whole year as of today.

So... that’s neat.

Another week come and gone. Another story up. And another bout of writer's block. Well, "writer's block". What do you call it when you know what to write, but not... how to write it? I bet there's a word for that.

That's still the best joke in that game.

It's done. Sweet Celestia, that was a hard chapter to get through. Something like twenty or more rewrites, and more than a few cut... um, chapters' worth of material. But that's not the thing that really... really made this a hard chapter to finish.

Okay, it was. But there was another thing. The content of this chapter is just... hard. Like, I need to write something happy next or I'm gonna crawl into a ball and never stop crying.

So. I write about 2-3k words a day.

Then, I delete about 90% of the last day's writing, and start again.

Plus side: The story is coming along well. It's nice and lean, like I like it.

Downside: It's slow. Very slow.

But, in other news, I've actually gone back and cleaned up Chapter 1 so that it isn't a super pain in the flank to read!

It's summer. I live in a desert.

I wish I could write more, or just faster. I feel like I've been staring at the same paragraph for months, but it's only been days. I sit down to write, and then something pulls my attention away. I'm already so, so late on writing that thing I promised myself I'd do for Pride that I'm wondering if I need to shelve it for now and get back to the other stories I'm committed to working on.

The heat's just sapping all my energy these days.
