My stance on AI Stories · 11:32am October 3rd
Hello, Moon here.
I am the firm believer that AI slop has to be fought at every corner.
While I find AI as a very useful tool that makes art far easier to come to life, automating art is nothing that I will ever support. I do admit that AI art of any kind, is still a form of art, but in my opinion, and by the rhetoric of the FimFic community, it has no place on this site.

I guess I should probably actually clarify things and not just post cheeky hyperbole. You posted your thing on the heels of my getting roped into a series of very annoying conversations about AI, and I reacted a bit harsher than was perhaps appropriate. No, I don't think you should actually delete your account. Nor am I at all interested in banning or otherwise taking action against people who disagree with the rule and want to talk about it. Much as I may personally wish that everybody would just knock it off with this tech entirely, I'm not interested in using threats or any other kind of harsh action to make it so.
Here's the full PSA we posted about the issue (and the many many pages of argument that were subsequently had), but the quick version: AI-generated content specifically falls under "stories you didn't write." If an AI generates the text, then it's not written by you. Which for our purposes means basically anything substantially AI-generated. I wish I could get more specific than that, but every time I try to define "substantially" with any degree of specificity whatsoever, people start up the what-if machine and start hurling thousands of insanely specific scenarios at me asking if it's acceptable to only use AI to generate every third word in sentences written while Mercury is in retrograde, and so on.
Generally speaking if you're using AI to generate full sentences or paragraphs at a time, you are in violation of the rule. I strongly recommend people entirely swear off AI for anything Fimfic-related, as contrary to what some people will tell you the general attitude towards AI use on this site is overwhelmingly negative save for a few suspiciously vocal defenders. AI-generated cover art is actually allowed here, yet I regularly see people refuse to read stories that use it. People even report it all the time trying to get it taken down, even though it is permitted. The reaction to your thread simply asking questions about AI should also be quite telling; the people who actually think this tech should be allowed here are in a distant minority, and precisely zero actual staff members are at all sympathetic to its use in fanfiction. But, if you're going to use it at all it needs to be extremely minor touch-ups and edits. Having the AI write the story and then editing it yourself later isn't allowed. Writing the whole story and then feeding it wholesale into an AI to "edit it," resulting in it completely changing large blocks of text and reworking entire passages, is not allowed. And so on.
I can't speak for FF or AO3 or anywhere else, but this site exists to showcase and celebrate human creativity. AI-generated stories are not welcome here.

You must not be online very much if you missed all the controversy lately about AI. There have been numerous posts on The Writers' Group as well as other Groups. We even had one member "rage quit" merely for being asked about her use of AI in her "stories," but that's a matter for another day.
...and if you listen to this foolish "advice" beyond the parameters the Mod has stated, you WILL get banned.

That would be here, with the note from the Mod at the bottom:

No problem and I agree, it is absolutely ridiculous. If you wanna post about AI just be very careful and put it in the right places. As I said I think you should put this in a different MLP forum where it is more accepted. I don’t think the admins realize that opinions on this are split right down in the middle. As I said they are in a bubble with those kinds of thing and to what you pointed out.

Thank you. I am not panicking, I am just overdramatic.
I don't care about the silly numbers on some random post. I care much more about the silly numbers on my story. And having only one threat message in PMs is inconsequential in my experience.
I understand the stigma around the AI, and it is my own fault for not realizing it. But what I find ridiculous the most, is hiding this rule on a thread hidden behind a year's worth of backlog. Do they not realize that most people look at 'General conduct' and do CTRL+F 'AI'?
