[Experiment: First-person recollection]

In a moment of thought, Rainbow Dash recalls the days surrounding her promotion to Captain of the Wonderbolts. She details the conversations and reactions of those close to her, causing her to question her old mentor and her new subordinates. She asks herself...was the choice made the right one? What did it mean to her? And most importantly, what did it mean to Spitfire?

Written for the Rainbow Dash writing contest from a few months ago. I never found enough time or inspiration to finish my entry. So, as an experiment in writing first-person past-tense, I'm going to flesh out the idea and submit it chapter by chapter.

Dearest Twilight. Please allow me a moment of your time.

Celestia finds herself regretting the fact that she has kept secrets from Twilight. In moments of weakness, she drafts letters to her student, revealing a larger part of her own story.

Twilight Sparkle never received the package containing Starswirl the Bearded's spell journal.

And Celestia is not happy about it.

Her name was Zecora. And she wasn't strange. So why did everypony treat her so differently? She was arrogant, proud, reckless, defiant, and just plain dangerous. A child by all accounts, who wanted all of the fame with none of the responsibility. A kid who didn't know what it really meant to be a Wonderbolt. So just how did she end up changing her stance and eventually become the most famous captain of the aerial flight team? It all began with her second day of trying out, and the words of her iconic captain.

Rainbow Dash is presented with an opportunity to gain the skill she needs to join her idols, the Wonderbolts. However, the opportunity seems false, and she learns to accept it as such. But does that mean the wish was a lie? If not, then just whose wish is actually granted?

"You cannot hope to defeat me, dear Princess. Your Harmony lies broken!"

Note: This story began in July 2011, between Seasons One and Two. Show continuity has been considered, but due to constraints, the following canon is entirely ignored:
•Discord's reformation
•Twilight's ascension and coronation
•The wildlife of the Everfree Forest
