Princess Celestia has an assignment for Daring Do, and shares a dark secret. Thorax and his hive are not the first Changelings to reform. But every hive that has done so in the past has been cursed, a dark power blighting their eggs and leading to extinction within a generation.

It must not happen again.

Daring Do's mission? To delve into the lost history of the Changelings and find out who, or what, refuses to allow them peace. Before it's too late.

On the eve of the winter solstice, Starlight and Twilight are interrupted on what is definitely not a date by an injured Sunset Shimmer. She says she’s from the future, and she has the wings to prove it. She’s come to warn of a terrible threat to the changelings.

And, in Sunset's excitement, she lets slip that Twilight is her future wife.

But that won't save you when you all get out intact and they remember. And somehow the fact that both Sunset and Twilight seem enthusiastic about Rarity's feelings, and have actually asked her on a date with them, just makes it scarier.

A lady doesn't panic. If Rarity tells herself that often enough it may become true.

Sunset is feeling a bit uprooted facing the changes that come with graduation, so she and her friends set off on a road trip to make this last summer one to remember. And New Mexicolt seems the perfect place. Art, history, and natural beauty abound. But strange auroras haunt the skies, and there are reports of UFOs.

Really, the state motto is The Land of Enchantment. They should have seen this coming.

This means that Twilight gets to do something she's wanted to try ever since she played pretend with her big brother in the Guard. She's going to take over Equestria.

Twilight has never liked Discord, even after Fluttershy befriended him and brought him ostensibly to the side of good. And she's always happy to visit Fluttershy in her home without a whimsical and almost unstoppable Chaos God to complicate things. That Discord isn't here for Twilight's visit is wonderful news!

At least until Twilight sees how sad Fluttershy is, and asks her why. Discord is on a mission for Celestia, and it's incredibly serious.
