Sunset Shimmer is dead. Rainbow Dash is stubborn. Luna is a sucker for puppy dog eyes. For these three reasons, Sunset gets a second shot at being not dead. All Rainbow has to do is guide her marefriend out of hell. What could go wrong?

Welcome to 1,000 years B.S. (Before Starlight). What a grand time to be alive.

This is a time when Luna was still appreciated. When every year, the longest night was still celebrated with festivities and fun and moon-themed sugary stuffs.

Luna's life is great. Ponies are happy to see her, she's actually needed to solve problems in the kingdom, and she and Celestia share a close, sisterly bond. Nothing in the six months from the Winter Solstice to the Summer Solstice could change that, right?

Sunburst's house is... a bit less than tidy and it's about time to change that. However, as soon as he decides to clean up, Sunburst finds an assuming book with no title or author on its cover. The wise advice of his marefriend to clean up his house is ignored as Sunburst decides to put off cleaning until he finds out what the book is about. Or at least what its title is.

Snowfall Frost ignored the signs and cast her spell. Both she and the generations to come paid the deadly price. With Equestria plunged into a world of icy darkness, no alicorn princesses in sight, and no Elements of Harmony to bring warmth and hope to the ponies, they faded away. Yet, a small population escaped the death trap and formed a small town to the east of the Canterlot Ruins. Now, a small group of the escaped ponies has returned to set things right. With them are three would-be princesses and the ponies who, in another time, would have been the bearers of the fabled Elements of Harmony. Also with them is a very powerful unicorn, a direct descendant of Snowfall herself.
