So when Applejack suggests that maybe they should get each other Hearth's Warming presents, Rainbow jumps at the idea. After all, all she needs to do is find the perfect gift and show Applejack just how much she loves her.

Shouldn't be too hard, right? It's Rainbow Dash we're talking about here. She'll probably find it in like two minutes, tops.

Ditzy Doo has done wonders for Trouble Shoes, providing him with an emotional anchor to help settle down and finally establish roots for himself.

While the move to Ponyville was difficult, he is excited to be with the mare he loves and finally have the family he's always desired.

This includes being a father to Ditzy's daughter, Dinky Doo. However, the change has been difficult on her and she remains fairly distant and formal towards him, frequently calling him Mr. Clyde and treating him like any other adult.

Trouble Shoes hopes that with Nightmare Night approaching, he can use the holiday to finally bond with his stepdaughter and bridge the divide between them.

On a cold January evening...

...Princess Twilight Sparkle sits beside her mother's bed, watching as the elderly Queen Celestia passes her final evening. Tomorrow, she'll be Queen, and a nation will look to her to unite them in their mourning. However, the burdens of her new position may prove too much to bear.

...Ms. Sunset Shimmer laments within a Canterlot townhouse. It's a foreign setting in an already foreign land. She's a girl born to the slums of Neigh Orleans, thrust into the upper crust of Equestrian society. All because she fell in love with Twilight Sparkle, starting what might be Equestria's most controversial relationship.

...Prime Minister Fancy Pants drowns out another late night behind a wall of gin and tobacco. The labours of running a nation are heavy upon him, and are made no easier by the progressive rhetoric spewed by Celestia's heir. May the gods save Equestria, and his liver, if she ever ascends.

The events of this evening will set in motion a year of deception, alliances, politics, and romance.

Centuries ago an apocalypse ravaged Equestria, scorching the lands, boiling the seas, and burning away the air. In that fateful moment, the embers of life were snuffed and the planet left a husk.

However, I survived, immune to the desolate environment I was unfortunate enough to inhabit. With nothing left to do, I began to walk, scouring what remains of Equestria in search of anything to give my life meaning.

It was only a matter of time before I returned to Ponyville.

The windigos left Equestria gripped in the clutches of a seemingly eternal winter, driving ponykind to the brink of extinction. However, in Equestria's bleakest hour an act of friendship between an earth pony, unicorn, and pegasus drove back the windigos' curse and lifted a decade of snow and ice.

This story became the hallmark tale of Hearth's Warming, a holiday to honour the ponies lost and friendships gained during those dire times. A holiday which also has the added benefit of reinforcing the magical barrier which holds the windigos at bay.

With the stakes so high, a meaning so noble, and memories of the Great Winter still fresh in mind, getting ponies to celebrate shouldn't be too difficult.

The HMS Thunder Child was a warship built in the final years of an "eternal" peace. This meant that when war broke out, she'd already been in service for eighteen years.

It was thought that a ship this old and designed with peace in mind would not be ideally suited to the rigors of modern war. These notions were left absolutely shattered when the warship performed her duties with exception, becoming known as one of the most effective vessels in the entire Equestrian navy.

However, the warship faced her greatest challenge, when she and her task force encountered a combined fleet of Changeling and Olenian vessels near Vanhoover. A fleet which held the potential of severing the fragile supply lines the Thunder Child was tasked to defend.

This story follows the point of view of three separate figures involved in this fateful skirmish; an admiral unsure of his command, a captain in desire of glory, and a mechanic disillusioned with his life in the navy.

Princess Twilight Sparkle has recently returned from a diplomatic mission to Gryphonstone. While she has gone beyond the borders of Equestria many times in the past, this is her first official state visit as a princess.

As a way of celebrating her success Princess Celestia hosts a tea party, during which the other monarchs of Equestria share stories about diplomatic blunders. These include Cadance's bout with Saddle Arabian purity laws, Luna's near beheading, and Celestia's ordeal with limes.

The parliament of Equestria was formed three hundred years after the banishment of Nightmare Moon. It was established in order to address the widening gap between Celestia and her subjects, reduce the strain of governing an ever growing domain, and to represent the diverse set of interests and species that make up Equestria.
