Due to forces beyond his control, not to mention a few inconvenient laws, a being from Tartarus is forced to travel through the cities and towns of Equestria in order to go home. During the trip, however, he and his guide begin to develop feelings for each other. Which only gives them a few days to either take a risk or lose a chance.

Unknown forces bring a human to a forest in winter, in nothing but his uniform. The powers that be have a cruel, twisted sense of humor. But more importantly, why is he there? Can he even go back home? And what lies beyond the snow-laden pines?

Candleheart is from the Ponyville Orphanage, and gets a lot of odd looks from the other kids. Most colts his age would be outside, playing games like hoofball, but he preferred to listen to stories. Stories told by the antique dealer, owner of the new curio shop. Candleheart's imagination never failed to take him to the distant lands in those stories, but always he went alone. Until...
