There are many peaceful places in Equestria, and Sweet Apple Acres would likely be described as one of the most peaceful ones. But it is a fact of life that no safety is guaranteed. And the Acres were no exception to that rule.

On the first night of Zap Apple season, a fire broke out in the orchard, forcing Applejack’s parents, Bright Mac and Pear Butter, to rush out to combat it to save the farm. On any other night, this would have been the end to the danger for them. But as it stood, the timber wolves found them, and had them trapped. They would have died that night…

If it weren’t for the help of a young dragon.

One thousand years ago, Princess Luna grew resentful of her elder sister and all of the attention she got. She felt it was unfair how all the ponies under their rule played during the day, but slept through the night which she put so much work into for them to enjoy. All of her hard work ignored. So one day she refused to lower the moon and make way for the day. When her sister pleaded with her to lower the moon, she refused, and transformed into a wicked mare of darkness, consumed by her jealousy. All because no one loved her night, loved her.

Or so it is said.

There was one being that loved her night, and enjoyed spending time with the lunar Princess. One who could be considered the Night Princess’s friend. One who trusted her.

Until she betrayed that trust.

“I can’t believe I managed to find the formula to break the barrier between different universes!” Twilight thinks to herself giddily. “And now Celestia is sending me and the girls through the portal to meet with the leader or leaders of the first race we meet. Hopefully we'll be able to start a peaceful relationship with them.”

“Let’s see, oh this is perfect, I think we landed right in front of a group of… dragons?! Okay, okay, calm down Twilight, they might not be like dragons from Equestria, and they look civilized and… they’re looking at us in shock and… horror? Wait, why do my hooves feel wet? And why is there a choking sound coming from behi-OH MY CELESTIA THE PORTAL’SBURSTINGOUTOFHISCHEST!!!!!!!!!”
