Ost-Griffionia has long been the crossroads where Griffon and Equine kind have met. To the west, the heartland of the once might Griffionian Empire. To the east, the Riverlands, bastion of ponykind on Griffionia.

Here, the plains, forests and swamped are marked by ancient battlefields. Here, history is written in blood, forged in brutal crusades and border raids. Here, two kinds have fought for hundreds of years. Animosity is deeply ingrained in both cultures.

In Longsword, the worst consequences of this long, terrible history are being played out. Ponies treated little better than animals and Griffons reviled as killers and monsters. The whole tragic affair is no doubt soon to escalate and worsen, dragging everyone into an even messier whirlwind.

Yet, even as the country stands at precipice, the good of creatures can still shine through, illuminated under the glowing blue light of the pale moon.

The Great War draws towards it's end.

The forces of the United Ponies Alliance advance on the Changeling heartland.

Before them stands the great Hive City of Vraks, the main producer of almost all war material which fuels the Queens Heer. Vrakian Changelings, renowned for their stubbornness and warlike nature, are unlikely to give up their hive without a drawn out fight.

Hoping to solve both problems, the Equestrian Royal Air Force decides to undertake the largest bombing raid of the entire war. Hundreds of aircraft whose sole mission is to wipe Hive Vraks off the map. Under cover of cloud and darkness, they'll drop thousands of tons of explosives and incendiary devices on the war forge of the Queendom.

One Equestrian soldier gets to watch this raid first hoof.

(I don't feel this is my best work, but life is rather stressful and I told myself I'd write something for this contest. So, here it is, in all its stream of consciousness glory)

Tensions had been brewing in North Zebrica for a long time. With the destruction of the Storm King giving them an excellent opportunity, Chiropterra, a secretive state of slavers and zealots, invaded Tobuck and the tribes of the Imazeeb. Their expansion wasn't ready to stop there and the next target seemed to be the ancient Kingdom of Warzena.

The Nightmarist came in the dead of the night, intent on spreading their dogma and their cruelty. The invasion of Warzena was supposed to be a lightning quick war which would extinguish the dying kingdom once and for all. The last domino to fall in the dominance of the Nightmare! But it was not meant to be.

Instead of the lightning war against a group of squabbling and unprepared zebras, the Chiropterrans found themselves up against stiff resistance. The Warzenin people, humiliated once at the cruel hands of the Storm King, would never again allow themselves to be conquered! With the assistance of Hippogriffia, the line holds. For now. Every day, the Nightmareist and the opportunistic Sufrit of Colthage gain more ground in Warzena and Zumidia. Every day, the seemingly inevitable draws closer.

To most outside of North Zebrica, the war is a mere distraction to the greater conflicts brewing on Equus and Griffionia. But not all are content to leave the light of Harmony snuffed out by cretin authoritarians and hate filled zealots. Some would give their lives for such a cause.

As the king of Warzena declared for all the world to hear: "Warzena Is Not Yet Lost!"

Written for the 2019 Equestria at War writing contest and thus is set within its world. Equestria at War is a mod for Paradox Interactive 'Hearts Of Iron 4'! If you own the game, I highly recommend you look up the mod on the workshop as it has effort and hard work from dozens of talented modders, coders, modelers, and artist who have made something I have spent hundreds of hours enjoying. With that explanation aside, enjoy the little dumb lore thing I've made (Note: some liberties have been taken with minor lore for flavor and there are likely mistakes because we all human y'all)
