If you look at any story, it has two descriptions, a short and a long. The first one, the short, is the one that appears when you "mouse over" a story title, or when it appears on the popular or new stories lists. It is usually a sentence or two long. The second one, the long description, gives a more in-depth description of the story. It is the description that appears on the story's actual page, and will appear if it comes up on the Featured Bar.
Here's examples from one of my works, Certain Advantages:

Short Description:
When Dash makes Spike bet on this year's Sisterhooves Social, she's sure she can't lose... right?

Long Description:
It's Sisterhooves Social time again. This year, Dash catches wind of two new competitors and gets Spike to bet on the race. When her team is revealed to be a rather famous set of siblings, it looks like poor Spike will be her slave for a week! However, due to a team of masseurs, a minor invasion, unfortunate addictions, and dubious barrel components, victory might not be as near as she thinks...

You can see that the short description is a "grabber" meant to get attention. You can also see that the long description is meant to give a more in-depth description. Both are your only chances to sell your story, so don't waste them talking about you or describing things not related to the story! Best of luck!
