Just hit me, I found the story in Dec 5th story updates on Equestria Daily. Man my memory sucks sometimes.

I can not remember the exact filters I used to find it, but I stumbled upon it while looking for something new to read (unsurprisingly). So far I'm really enjoying it, up to chapter 16 now. The method of telling the story through, well a story has me tearing my hair out (in a good way) over trying to figure out what lead to Soarin's current predicament. The parts outside of the flashbacks are also enjoyable thanks to Syn and Soarin's interactions, which came as a surprise because I was expecting them to seem like roadblocks before the next bit with Braeburn and Soarin. My only complaint so far is when Soarin confronts Braeburn at Appleloosa and Braeburn vents about the trouble he has had since coming out, Soarin's response about his mother felt a little weaker in comparison. I'm having a hard time expanding on that though so I am not all to sure on it, just that it was something that gave me pause. I would also just like to say that Soarin feels exceptionally real, which just makes everything have more impact.

And oh god I should not have brought my gimmicky coin flip deck to this. "mountain, Mana Clash, ???, Profit?"
