As a certain purple alicorn would tell you, many myths and legends tend to have some basis in truth, whether factual or interpretive. Celestia has centuries, if not millennia, of experience to verify these. Daring Do has uncovered relics of ages thought lost to the sands of time. But the truth of some myths from the beginning of time are lost to all knowledge.

And they are happy for it to stay that way.

Three ponies who are those myths keep on their duty to the world

Looking over some of her old letters, Princess Twilight thinks of her adventures. One in particular struck her as odd. She ran with a theory and found evidence that implicates what seems like an otherwise innocent day of the week.

Black Jack comes from a long family line of gamblers. So there's quite the question as to why Nightmare Night makes it so important to them. He explains to his niece just why the family revere a night that was originally something ponies dreaded.

Every couple months or so, Gumption visits Ponyville to sell off a few gems. His secret to finding them are three Diamond Dogs he raised as pups. The only reason anyone knows about this is the Royal Guard spotted his home and the three during a routine patrol. Their orders were to observe but not engage unless necessary.

Twice now, she's endangered Ponyville.
Twice now, she's been forgiven and allowed to leave.
This time, Pinkie Pie is not letting her go so easily.

On a certain Tuesday, five thieves break into the Starswirl the Bearded wing in the Canterlot Archives and steal a scroll. The unicorn they deliver it to, after inspecting the goods, drops it off for the one who hired him for the heist.

The consequences of the theft could be more than any one pony can bear.

This is my first submission, brought about by a need to do something creative. Criticism isn't just welcome, it's requested.

The main story is set after Tirek's defeat and does not account for Season 5 or later.

The Prologue and .5 chapters are set during "It's About Time" and are meant as an amusing distraction. The remark Twilight made, "Why isn't anypony surprised to see me sneaking around in here?" is what set off a lot of the ideas.
