Fluttershy always wanted to be a tree. It would seem blasphemous to consider such a thing, but they were the pinnacle of perfection. To her they were giving, kind, stoic and steady, qualities she strived to become. Others were like minded, though having met them she was surprised, their passion for trees equaled her own. Still, their society was a secret and it would have to stay that way. What pony would worship a tree?

AN: Story inspired in part of the artwork that is this cover art. The characters are different though, and the story is overarching. Took me a few days to write this. I never actually expected this story to be this long or this bittersweet, but there you go.

Just as you arrive home after getting into an interesting fight with your supervisor as to what qualifies as 'good research', you open the door to your house to find the strangest looking creature. She calls herself Twilight Sparkle. She's convinced you're a fictional character from a book series on her world, and that you're her 'favourite character'.

A mainly philosophical and logic-based story where characters explore these topics in a very obvious way.

Twilight read a book, and the book told her a tale,
There once was a caterpillar, it had started so frail,
It searched for food, for it was in the mood,
For some juicy, juicy leaves, or so it believed.
It ate and ate, until it got full,
And then one night, it felt a strange pull,
Wrapped in a cocoon so tight,
It came out, what a sight!
A beautiful butterfly, oh my!
It stretched it wings, and began to fly...

Twilight is up late one night, reading a pleasant old children's book. Then she hears a sound and investigates. There was a caterpillar, and it was very, very hungry.

Lyssa is an apprentice witch training to become a fully-fledged witch. She's smart, she's capable but she doesn't really like how magic is taught. When does it become practical? Why can't we use it anywhere? After disrupting the class one too many times, the headmistress and the school decide what they want to do with her. She needs to go on a Journey, they think. To a land with magic in their everyday lives...

Fluttershy doesn't often come to Cloudsdale, in fact it's a little overbearing for her to be near it. But there is one attraction near Cloudsdale, or rather, below it that keeps her coming back. Every year Fluttershy journeys to the butterfly migration. Rainbow Dash, bored out of her mind, decides tags along to find out what the fuss is about.
